You have to kill them off before they die.  As far as I am aware only one instance of a maquqe monkey getting infected from eating CWD contaminated meat.  No increase in reported human prion diseases from areas with lots of CWD.

I live right next to the area where there were three positive cases found in the mandatory testing this season.

MDC has been in contact with the landowners in the area and are planning on doing some culling. The numbers seem to depend on owners discretion, and they have the option of doing the culling themselves or allowing MDC to step in.

From what I understand, the deer are to be field dressed if harvested by landowner, and MDC will pick them up, process and test them, and then return the meat or donate it if the owner chooses, provided that it is free of CWD.

They are allowing bait and spotlighting for the culling, which is supposed to start on the 1st.

Don't quote me on that because I have not seen the regulations first hand.

I'm not optimistic that it will do much aside from getting a better idea of how widespread it is, although it's possible that is the main goal.

Yeah, just south of Collins where St. Clair, Cedar, Hickory and Polk counties meet.

What do I have against canned hunts you say?  Just not as sporting in my opinion.  I agree there are times that people go home empty handed, but to me it is about the same as fishing for bass off the beds.  Not as fun and far more easier to catch.  That and why would I want to pay someone to hunt when I have plenty of land to hunt on for free.  I mean come on, 40,000 for a hunt?  If I shell out that kind of cash and go home empty handed you bet I'm going to be pissed!  lol

Well with so called Canned Hunts you can hunt game that you would have to go to another country to hunt and it gives you something to do during the off season. What can you legally hunt in March in Missouri?

Go with a group as I have, have a good time, be catered to and enjoy, the hunting is only part of it. Unless you have done this I don't see where you have a Dog in the fight.

Well for crying out loud!   I sat here and gave you all the cred of being a straight up country boy......and now all this canned hunt business is coming out.

Ya think ya know somebody.....

My wife put a stop to it because she said it wasn't hunting more Party Time. Only went 4 or 5 times but had fun.

Wasn’t the Arkansas cwd outbreak just south of Missouri brought in by the Arkansas conservation dept restocking elk there. I think I heard that. Missouri from importing deer up north. Read the Michigan sportsman forum. Guys in Wisconsin dealing for years what is in store for us. Cons. Agent told me in my life , I’m 53. I will hunt some deer. But my kids no way. When Kansas gets their head out of their but and allocates money for testing they are gonna be in big trouble if they get positive hits. I bought a new boat and am transitioning from deer to fish .

I believe in both cases you mentioned it was not MDC but private game farms raising white-tail deer is where the disease got its start in those areas.  Prion diseases have been around for a long time, however there is a LOT of unknowns with them.  Let a few cases of transfer from infected deer to humans occur and then I don't know what then.
