How long should the leader be? P Line direct. Nanofil always with leader. I start with a 6 foot leader and tie in new leader when it gets down to 24 inches or so Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Red Label flouro 4 pound. If real clear water I use 5X flouro tippet. I gave up on my second (and last) go round with Nano. Poor knot performance whether with a Crazy Alberto or the FG knot.

rainbow Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Trilene XL 2 or 4 in low vis green for Taneycomo. Better results with that for me than the fluorocarbon.
MOPanfisher Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Once I got used to braid I haven't gone back. Specifically Nanofil, I also have some of other tyoes, Fireline etc. The coarser braids are pretty easy to put leaders on, the smaller slicker Nanofil has been a learning experience. After multiple knot failures I decided to either lean to do it or die trying. I use mostly 6 or 8 lb Nanofil or braid, with P line or strength leaders. The Nanofil is very picky about number wraps and how you pull it tight. Too many wraps and it will break, too few ad it will slip. However I am still determined to master it, the mono helps greatly with abraision against rocks etc. as the Nanofil and braids don't take it well. Often if I get frustrated I simply tie direct and continue to fish, when I do that I use a fishing fool knot. Maybe I will try the FG knot but looks complex for my simple mind.
Gatorjet Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Maxima Ultra Green. 2# for all jig fishing. 4# for jerkbaits. 6# main line, 2# leader for drift rigs. Nanofil with Berkley Vanish leader for jig & float. Real men go propless!
Gavin Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 Some superglue or UV cure glue will fix allot of connection problems. Use hi-vis 2lb diameter Suffix braid on all of my spin rigs if the temps are above freezing. Go with suffix 8lb mono if below freezing. Usually fish 2x Seaguar flouro fly tippet as a leader for jerkbaits or jigs. Will go down to 5x rarely. Will add a leader to the mono if it makes a diff. Rarely does except when the river is dead low. Have not tried Nanofil, cuz suffix braid lasts for years.
Travis Swift Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 I use the SOS 2 pound trout line and i like if so much I bought the 10, 400 yard spool. Its tough, sensitive and cheap and its the best I've ever used. Heck i watched my brother catch a 6 pound bass on that 2 pound SOS line here in kansas and it had been on his reel for 3 years!
