Is it enough of a difference to make it worth the extra $200? Jury would be out on that, but I'm selling the 7'4" Cara Mike McClelland football jig rod and keeping the two 7'3" NRX rods I have for footballs and Crigs. Same reel, same line, same bait, I've fished them side by side, and I could definitely feel more of what was going on with the NRX. I don't have any sublimated jerseys at all, though I did consider having my boat wrapped for Bernie. Probably couldn't find someone to wrap it on their dime I take it???? lol. Just kidding Token Dem. I have never used anything over a Cara level. So, unlike Old Plug, I can't comment on something I've never used and can't draw any direct comparisons. I can't justify paying $500-600 for a rod but I won't bash anyone that can afford it. Whatever you want to spend your money on is your prerogative, it's YOUR money. I don't look down on anyone that uses Ugly Sticks from a 14' john boat with a 1945 model, lime green 25 horse 'Rude hanging off the back. Just like I don't poo poo a guy using Steez and Loomis combos, running a fully loaded 2018 21' Ranger with a 250 on it, dual power poles and sporting four 12" graphs. Too each their own. I own a clean champ 734 that cost me $160. If you have the time to search and aren't in a hurry, lots of good deals can be found on ebay, BBC, and other online fishing forums. I used to buy my Dobyns stuff (no I don't own a jersey ) new during the usual online sale times... but by the time the rod count approached double digits, my better half had become rather cynical of my "it's on sale" schtick. So I started shopping used and found that I could pick up most stuff for 35 to sometimes 50% off of original retail. The less popular the rod is, the bigger your discount usually is. Now that's just the market for used Dobyns gear, but I'd think you could find other niche brands for similar. My general experience is that the majority of people who have sunk $200+ into a fishing stick will have taken reasonably decent care of it (if not, you can easily tell by the pics). The extent of any scratching or cork soiling/dings will have more impact on your discount, versus your ability to fish with it. Used reels can be a bargain too, but IMPO, you need to be a little more particular due to the mechanical aspects. So in short, don't be afraid to also look at used if you want a higher end model but don't want to spend the $ for it new. mixermarkb 1

Too each their own. i do not really care what you have to say and never have. But a lot of these guys on here are spending way more than they should be . So I do not promote things that cost a lot of money. I realize you got a lots of money you wear it on your sleeve well. I have seen more than my share of ruined marriages over fishing and tackle buying. Sure you might pay $ 500 to $600 for a rod. Wears nice on your sleeve huh.? Never said Have not used high price tackle. You never know what i might know not what I might be exposed to in order to make comparisons.
mixermarkb Posted April 4, 2018 Posted April 4, 2018 I have bought my NRX stuff used, or on special sale events. If you are a careful shopper, there are deals to be had in that 30-50 percent off retail rate for gear. I'm also not cocky enough to think that the guy in the 12' topper Jon with budget gear can't dial the fish in better than I can. Royal Blue, abkeenan and evilcatfish 3

I try to at least give information on the boards here to genuinely help people catch more fish or have a more successful time on the water. Take it or leave it and I am not always 100% right but I share my experiences, good or bad. To me time on the water holds more value above all else and if I can help someone, even just a little, that's worthwhile. I know I've learned a ton from the Ozark Anglers community here on the boards. I've taken way more than I have given. This is a GREAT place to learn, share and expand your knowledge. You on the other hand would rather interject your negativity on just about every single post you've ever made here. You offer very little value to the OA boards, unless condemning things and people is of value....which to you I guess it is. Royal Blue and Smalls21 2

I know there are a bunch of deals to be had over on the BBC for sale boards. Guys over there will use something once and either not like it or it's just not quite what they were looking for and will let go of it for great prices. Always a lot of Loomis stuff for sale over there as well as other high end rods/reels.
Quillback Posted April 5, 2018 Posted April 5, 2018 A buddy of mine gave me a great deal on a GLX 803 jig and worm rod. It is the most sensitive rod I have and have ever fished. 3/8 oz is it's sweet spot. It's fun to fish. And yeah I could catch them on my old fiberglass Shakespeare spinning rod I have had since high school, it's probably 45 years old now. But that thing is a dog to fish. Rps has a casting rod he made for fishing 1/8 oz Neds. He let me cast it once, I could throw that little ned on it and it was as sensitive as you could want. mixermarkb and abkeenan 2

I cannot expand my knowledge living here on a septic tank. File a complain with Lilly. I got full sewers how are you doing.

Beaches at LOZ are constantly being closed for periods of time due to high e coli counts when testing the waters. It's a dirty lake and that's just a fact. Again, I've been to LOZ many times and CAN compare it to Table Rock. There is no comparison in my opinion. That's all I have to say to you. Just keep on living what years you have left in your typical condescending and negative existence. Smalls21 and Champ188 2
