MDC Fishing Report?

Ok every year I get the MDC Fishing Report but go when I can.

Monday I'm going to Pomme de Terre Catfishing they are saying all fishing is slow.

I always take the MDC fishing reports with a grain of salt. They never seem like they are super accurate to me. Plus, they are usually so very generic that it isn’t even helpful after you’ve seen a few.

Funny, ain't it?  The ones you'd expect to truly have their finger on the pulse...... Clueless.

There's no money in it for them.

As I understand it the reports are usually provided by a marina or something.

Watch the LOTO reports this summer. I guarantee for bass it says “throw plastic worms in brush piles”;for catfish it will say “nightcrawlers, and cut bait (maybe chicken livers)”; for crappie it will say “minnows and jigs around docks and over brush piles”. It’s like... duh.

So very generic.

There's only one "marina" on this lake that has anyone there that fishes year round.   And I know for a fact they've never been contacted by MDC for a fishing report. 

I promise that you'd get a kick out of it if they did though.

well, it's a report, that means it has to do with some thing that  already happened and no matter if you get a report from them or bob or george or sally it is always going to be about what is history and doesn't apply to what is today or will be tomorrow. In the case of the MDC report it is weekly , so all the information or misinformation is based on last weeks history. Between September and April the report might be 6 months old but will apply to tomorrow's fishing just as much as a week old report. It comes in my email and I rarely open it, it is probably compiled by an accountant in a basement from what ever bits of info they get fed.

You want to know how the fishing will be when you go? well, it's almost always "you should have been here yesterday" or a while ago or this morning.

You want to go fishing, just do it. If you're out there every day, you can be the guy that says "you should been here then".

Flush the toilet to see what the barometer is and look out the winder to see if it raining and get out there.

I know that at leaSt one marina here has submitted reports and I also know they don't fish.  They report what they hear from fishermen.  OA is probably the best reporting system.I have seen.
