Gavin Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 The douche version is a cover by Manfred Man. Springsteen wrote and released it on an album several years before. Never can make sense of his lyrics. KLiK 1
ness Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 According to the official story, ‘Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds’ refers to a picture drawn by John Lennon’s son Julian ( A/K/A ‘Jude’, as in ‘Hey Jude’) in school, not some psychedelic something. I’m gonna go with that. John
fishinwrench Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 The awesomeness of the Beatles always escaped me. I just never "got it". Kinda like the "brilliance" of Andy Kaufman. Never could stand Rodney Dangerfield either. How any of the above became famous is beyond me. dan hufferd and KLiK 1 1

Springsteen wrote and released it on an album several years before. Never can make sense of his lyrics. Couldn't remember what the differences were so had to look it up, was surprised by the last statement..... From Wiki,"Manfred Mann's Earth Band's recording of the song changes the lyrics. The most prominent change is in the chorus, where Springsteen's "cut loose like a deuce" is replaced with "revved up like a deuce." This is commonly misheard as "wrapped up like a douche" (the V sound in "revved" is almost unpronounced, and the S sound in "deuce" comes across as "SH" due to a significant lisp). The lyric is actually a reference to a hot rod "deuce coupe." Springsteen was fond of classic hot rods in his youth, hence the line "revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night." Springsteen himself has joked about the controversy, claiming that it was not until Manfred Mann rewrote the song to be about a feminine hygiene product that it became popular." ....apparently Springsteen heard it the same way we do!🤣 Johnsfolly 1 ~Klay

I’m gonna go with that. Was Julian even born at the time the song was written? I always thought it was a creative way to get past censorship. 2 hours ago, fishinwrench said: The awesomeness of the Beatles always escaped me. I just never "got it". John Lennon on his own is ok, Come together is a great tune. Rodney was ok at first but his humor gets predictable and old real quick. I get no respect....yeah well you have to give it to get it. fishinwrench and Gavin 2 ~Klay
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 Rodney Dangerfield was a king! That is all I can contribute. I have to admit I never knew much of any of the lyrics to that song until my kid sang it at her 8th grade talent show this year. She's gonna think that is funny.
Flysmallie Posted June 27, 2018 Posted June 27, 2018 I'll never say that the Beatles were the most overrated band of all time, because people like different things, but I just don't get it. They were the first boy band. KLiK, Bass Yakker and Johnsfolly 3

They were the first boy band. Yeah, people like different things. I didn't care a lick about them when they were together -- I was just too young. But, I grew to really like them in the 80's, though certainly not all their stuff because some of it is just plain weird. It's hard to deny their impact on culture and music though, and it has stood the test of time. They are the biggest selling artists of all time, and have the most #1 hits too. I just saw this the other day and I think it's pretty fun and cool too. KLiK and slothman 2 John
