I just heard that it is going to take a year to release the results of the investigation about what happened, why it happened, and how to prevent it in the future.  Why is it going to take that long.

A year is actually pretty fast in government time

No matter what you do, when death comes knocking, you have no choice.

It was a freak windstorm, one made it, the other did not.  I have been caught many times by a storm that pops up.  And water seems to intensify them.

Pray for the loss and don't point fingers.  Learn and try to prevent next time.

How many trips have they had without a problem?   Compare that to the airline you fly next time.

This is a lawyers dream.  You know as soon as the news got out every one of them slid to the edge of their seat and started laughing like Renfield.

Weren't those things originally military craft designed for beaching in a heavy surf?

Kinda of.  But they added all the bs for the tourists.

And think about all of the landing craft that did not make it to the beach.

Hmm.  Not sure what good any of that is gonna do, but maybe the lesson to be learned is to not put yourself (and your kids) into a contraption like that regardless of how fun it looks.  The ones they used to have here were open on top.  I don't think I'd even want to get into one where it was like a sealed capsule.... that's just ignorant IMO, probably hotter than hell on a Summer day and I fail to see the allure of paying a nickle to ride in one.   I feel the most sorry for the kids whose parents planned their day of "fun".

One year old infants don't enjoy "vacations" at all.

Quite a few Dukw's foundered in the surf during D-Day.

It seems to me that while there may be multiple answers to these questions, the answers do seem pretty common sense. Why is it going to take that long. Seems to me, that there must be some reason for them to already be planning to drag it out that long.

Full investigations into potential criminal/civil matters take a long time. That is not an unusual time-frame.

Golden rule of entertainment is don’t let the paying customers die.

I liken this to the stage collapse at the Sugarland show a few years back at the Indiana State Fair. Storm warnings were out, it was clear on radar that it was unsafe, and folks ignored the warnings to try and make a buck, or rather keep the bucks they had already made.

Same thing happened here. One can debate the safety of these craft all you want, but the bottom line is no one at “Ride the Ducks” was willing to look at a big blob of red inside a severe storm warning box on their iPhone radar app and start refunding credit cards.

Now, 17 folks are dead, and their entire segment of the industry may be sued and regulated out of existence.

Greed.

Plain and simple.
