There's about a 1/4 sq.mi. area north of Versailles, Mo that gets visited by military personnel periodically, and the state and county lawdogs can't even enter it when chasing a dangerous felon.  I asked a deputy once what was out there and he just said "we don't know".   There's a mailbox at the gate, as crazy as that sounds, but never a vehicle there unless you pass by when someone in uniform is entering the gate in a SUV with no plates.  I always wondered if someone stayed there underground.  Why the hell else would there be a mailbox?

So, how many times have the local cops chased dangerous felons up to that property and were forced to stop at the gate?

A-10s, usually don’t hear them until AFTER they zip over...gives a real good idea why they are so popular with the troops.  They seem to like to fly the lakes - see them often on LOZ.

After looking at an A-10 picture, I think you are right. And yes they are quiet.

Probably every time they see wrench around there!

Just once that I know of.    And I don't even think he was in there, they just thought he might be because he dumped a car nearby.

The Blue Angels were going to perform at Richards Gebaur just south of KC in probably around '93. We were standing at the windows watching them practice and every so often they'd come within site. Then, one came right up 71 Highway pretty low, turned on his side and continued right on up past the bank. He was co close that I gave him the sign and he gave it back. (I flew a Tiger in the 4/slot when I got back from 'Nam.) Boy, that brought back memories!

up until 1997 we had 165 Minuteman II missile silos in central Missouri many along HWY 54 which was our route on many of our fishing trips to Truman and LOZ. A-10s and a few armed helos patrolled those silos, if  you felt like testing your heart you could drive up to get a good look at the "we can kill you for being here signs"  and could get buzzed by an a-10 or armed helo.... I think those sites were sold off, would have been a great place to have bought for a prepper.

Growing up in Nevada it was a regular thing to drive up to a silo, leave and see how long it took for blue jeeps to come wheeling around.

My first line foreman was Don Stukesberry. When we had a storm and had to change a transformer in a two or three pot transformer station. We never had anyone respond to the outage but could hear the automatic generator running. These were not person manned silos but in a area around one manned station. Terrierman knows the manned station right on 54 where you turned South to Carls Gun Shop. So as we were changing the bad transformer Myself on the pole and my fellow lineman in the bucket good old Don would be throwing rocks at everything he could to see if it would trigger some kind of sensor and a response.  He would laugh and say if they show up I will get in the truck and let them get you guys. I know of only one serviceman who was the first one on the scene to try the bank before calling the crew for a bad transformer who had an armored vehicle with armed solders show up. They did confront him :) Said it was quite a deal!

I remember on our secondary lettered blacktop there was a whole tribe that showed up. The semi had a trailed backed up to the open silo and it would tilt straight up like an erect giant closed dump truck either taking a missile out or putting one back in. it was quite a thing to see. There were armed men all around and at the gravel driveway right at the highway entrance. Spooky really. When they were all decommissioned it was a very big deal. I cannot remember if they were actually imploded or just filled with gravel but there were guys from other nations to witness the process so nothing was hidden. Big news in rural BilletHeadVille. Now all that is left are the fences barbed wire top and all. The Farmers not store big bales of hay in there. Like Rick said "Good Times",
