merc1997 Bo Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 boy, talk about frontitis. could not find anyplace where there was any bait gathered. so, it was strictly a trolling motor pattern. ended up with 16 keepers and only caught two shorts. that is a good average. the double trivecta was caught keeps in all three species, and caught them on a 1 oz. Mega Elite Blade, a 1 oz. Elite Black Widow, and a 3/4 GrassJig. i think we did catch 3 keeps from one spot and everything else was one or two to a stop. caught them from everything from a bluff, way out on flat stuff, to very back of pockets. did catch a couple that were more like 15 ft. deep, but most of the bites anywhere were still 25 to 30 and i did a LOT of zig zagging to try to establish if one depth zone was better than another. maybe a few days of sunshine and the shad will gather back up better, but it is pretty much typical fishing for this time of the year. bass are breaking up from summer patterns and changing lanes. whether you are daytime fishing or night fishing this time of the year, you really have to be very flexible in your fishing to catch them. last night was a prime example of that. you have to look high and low and everywhere in-between. my best advice is to leave the rods on the deck and go looking with the electronics for a while to begin with. try to establish if the bait is all on one side of the lake. is it all up high or down deeper. these are all clues to where the biggest percentage of where the bass are going to be. one of the biggest mistakes that i watch many do is to execute what i call go round up the usual suspects. that means they go fish the same cove or point or bluff or flat and never just go exploring. bass are never going to be far from the kitchen. keep that in mind and figure out where the most food is to begin with. then start searching in that area and you will up your catching. this applies to both deep and shallow fishing. bo Quillback, Carl W, big c and 6 others 8 1
Guest Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 i did hear that around 19 lbs. won the cambell point fish off, and supposedly they cam shallow in one of the major arms. i could believe that given the weather conditions that night. really prime for finding some good lmg's up shallow someplace. will have to get back to chasing them around a bit, but catching those really nice brownies is kind of addictive. bo cheesemaster, STLbassbuster and Carl W 3
Carl W Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Good post Bo. Thanks for sharing and the advice.
Sprint21fter Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 About 8 years ago in the year end fish out that is out of 39bridge. The Stark boys brought in a 5 fish limit that weighed 27lbs and change. All the same size 5.5 lbers. 2nd was 20 with a 7.5 lber for big fish. The conditions were very similar to what we had a few days ago with cloud cover and low pressure. merc1997 Bo 1

Bill Babler Posted September 12, 2018 Posted September 12, 2018 Dam daytime bite is really picking up if your doing the right thing. Talked to Buster Loving and his morning trip yesterday they had a dozen keepers dragging a football jig in 26 to 35 ft. of water right behind the boat. That drag bite usually starts about the 1st. of October. Said they had at least 3 K's at the Three pound mark and a couple of LM pushing 4 just some fantastic fish. I went out a 1 PM call me crazy but I got pumped up listing to him after my trout guide trip. I repeated his technique and had 6 thumper keepers and 5 shorts that were between 14" and 15" in about 3 hours just dragging that 3/4 oz. Pig Sticker jig with a Nichole's Craw. Best 5 would have pushed 15 pounds. I had a LM a SM and the rest K's, no doubt when they bit it, it was just a hammer. Perfect wind yesterday with about a 6" chop. If I got the boat under 25' there were no bites, no bites came on the cast, every bite came dragging the Pig Sticker right behind the boat. Put the nose in the breeze and drag the long flat points in the above depth. Slow, and hop the jig. I think they would hit a Carolina rig really good also. Buster and I won that Homer Sloan a few years ago the 1st. week of October I think it is dragging a rig in the dam area in the same 28 to 35 ft. depth range. Every fish I caught yesterday had pinchers sticking out of its gullet, so they are for sure on a lobster eating binge. 96 CHAMP Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 You ever think about dragging a swing jig under the conditions with a football jig bite as such. Curious
Guest Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 bill how does one conclude that dragging your lure with the trolling motor is not trolling in a tournament??? i can understand the technique when fun fishing, but when rules say no trolling to me that is exactly what is meant. if you are going to pull a lure with your trolling motor, you might as well sue a crank bait. this is another reason that i have no desire to fish any tournaments because the rules mean nothing. i know we will just have to agree to disagree on this one, but when the rules state no trolling allowed that means to cast and retrieve your offering, not drag it along with the trolling motor all day. just my two cents and good luck with your "dragging" in tournaments. bo
JF660R Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 Just cut the rule and let people troll if they want to...I've never stacked up the large mouth trolling. Mostly whites, with some short LMs, and an occasional walleye...maybe I'm trolling wrong. merc1997 Bo 1 https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nocturnal-FabWorx/346443168872812 Like Nocturnal FabWorx on Facebook
Royal Blue Posted September 13, 2018 Posted September 13, 2018 I think he meant they were dragging a c-rig around on the bottom. That was how I interpreted the comment anyway.
