SplitG2 Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Found some good ones this morning. All K’s. They were in 28’ near a big brush pile on a long gravel run out. Started with a 3/4 finesse jig that slowed down mid morning and switched to the drop shot and picked it back up again. Water temp was 80. Best 5 below. bobby b., m&m, Quillback and 8 others 10 1
Johnsfolly Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Those are some chunkie spots! Congrats! SplitG2 and STLbassbuster 2
abkeenan Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 Nice Ks! Good to see the boat is on the mend and on the water. You sure have had some bad luck with mechanical letdowns here lately. Glad you were able to get out and trick a few.

dan hufferd Posted September 23, 2018 Posted September 23, 2018 I got a late start. I could not get it figured out. Thank you for the info. Question: did you find them with your graph, or find them by trial and error. I found a couple babies on or near the bank throwing various things but nothing worth bragging about.

Beautiful markings in that fish Dan. There are few gravel run outs I have caught fish on in the past. I purposely chose one with the E wind coming right in on it. I put the boat in 30’ and started casting into the wind and dragged the jig back to me. Carolina rig style. I started with traditional size 3/4 oz football jig with a Rage Denny Craw trailer. Caught a few but missed several and realized if they were all K’s it might have been too big so switched to a smaller size, still 3/4 oz, finesse jig with a baby rage trailer. Hook ups got better. Basically blind casting while seeing the occasionally group of fish on the graph. It got slow and I moved a little further toward where I new the brush pile was and saw them schooled up a little tighter around the perimeter of it and went drop shotting. I circled the pile and typically caught the ones I could see in small groups around it. Look for MDC brush piles in 30’ on gravel points and you should find some. And if it’s on an old road bed, its even better. magicwormman and dan hufferd 1 1
SplitG2 Posted September 23, 2018 Author Posted September 23, 2018 This was a pretty typical screen shot. magicwormman and dan hufferd 1 1
