What do you think of when someone says you’re going to Iceland?

My wife, son and sis-in-law planned this trip a year ago and here we are in the middle of a ten day tour.

Spent 3 days in Reykjavík. Fascinating city. Almost every building is made on concrete.

Got in the country yesterday. Wasn’t what I expected. Rolling plains with mountains always in view. Lots of sheep and horses and few cattle.   Farms are large and spread apart. Good road system.

Climate isn’t far from ours. A little less daylight right now.

Language is very difficult, both hearing and reading. But almost everyone speaks English too.

This is a headwater rivers runs into one of the largest lakes in Iceland. I saw 30-36 inch Brown’s everywhere spawning.  No fishing. Area is protected.

All heating here is from geothermal water. It's pumped in and runs through radiators in each room. Hot water is also heated by the same. All electricity is generated by geothermal too

Very Cool Phil! Too bad you couldn't get a bait in front of those brown trout. Sfill it must have been great to see fish of that size.

Beautiful Pics there Phil!  Def a place on my list to visit.  I agree with John wish you could get some fishing in LOL.  I hear the military base there in Reykjavík is supposed to be pretty cool.  My Bosses father was stationed there for a bit.  Lots of Lava rock for sure too!

Did you take one of the WOW flights?

I'm envious of you taking this trip as it's one I wish we had taken in our earlier life. Nova Scotia is another great destination and with a lot of unusual history.

Have a great trip.

That's pretty neat, looks like a great place to visit.

I saw a fly fishing show a couple of years ago where they fished for browns in Iceland.  The fishing looked to be pretty good.  I remember them saying something like the browns there are pure strain, they haven't interbred with hatchery browns brought in from somewhere else.

Maybe you can smuggle a bag of fingerlings past customs and put them in Taney?  😃

Yes we did.  $600 non stop out of St Louis.  Not bad...

Greg was searching google flights the other day and said we could fly to London for $100 round trip from here if we wanted to...  Not this time.
