I just want to say that all of you have been a big help. Thank you so much. I will contact SOF tomorrow and if that doesn't work out will be contact with Billethead. I have a couple other questions I will post later today.

OK, Second question. Why can't you speak to the gun buyer (eg. wife) when buying a fire arm. I am an old foggey and all my weapons were purchased before the background searches were required. Yes, I am older than dirt. lol  When we went up to the firearms counter at Academy Sports she asked for recommendations for a handgun for ladies and the guy recommended a 40 caliber and I interrupted and said that she might want to consider a smaller caliber because of less kick. The clerks immediately backed off and called the manager. I was told it was illegal to discuss firearms with the purchaser and was escorted from the store and have not been allowed back in the store to even buy a t-shirt.

We went to Bass Pro and they told me that while discussing firearms with my wife I would have to back up around 20 ft and would not be allowed to communicate with her. Why do they do that? Just curious.

I remember that story, it has got to be the dumbest rule ever.  I guess I just have never been caught up by it.

                   Straw Hat,

I am a couple counties North West of you. The whole gun buying deal is becoming quite the debacle now. It can be a mess. Funny you can buy face to face with another person. When it comes to buying from a dealer you have to jump through hoops. I agree we need to make sure firearms need to be sure to go to legal purchasers period.  We have quite the story about a purchase if I get a chance I will share with you.

I recommend the Glock 26 9mm for ladies.  It's 10+1 and you can use the Glock 19 fifteen round mags as back up.

A couple of years ago I bought a 45acp at Cabela's on my lunch hour.

My wife packs a 22 LR revolver. It won’t knock a person down with one shot but she will put 6 in them.

If the one shot lands in the head/face/neck it will.

A .22 is cheap enough to shoot ALOT.....which is something that anyone who plans to use it for defense should be doing instead of painting their nails.

Set up a bucket full of sand 10 yards from your porch, then catch her off guard sometime by telling her "Put 3 rounds in that bucket NOW" and see how quickly it happens.  If it takes longer than 8 seconds then trade her the gun for some nail polish.  😉

I know Grove OK is a bit of a drive as well, but they have a nice gun shop with a range that rents $18 all day long and you can try out many handguns there as well. For her I would recommend a 38, 380, or 9mm. I own a S&W Shield in 9mm and it doesn't kick nearly as hard as my sons Sig .380.

I know that many of the websites recommend the shield for a ladies handgun. Thanks for the advice.
