Terrierman Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 If anyone wonders about pepper spray or taser, they can come to my house and I will help you decide if either one works. Bring your own spray and your own taser. Being related to LEO who get to experience both in training, I have an idea how it will go. CS was all I ever had and it was plenty.
fishinwrench Posted December 11, 2018 Posted December 11, 2018 Some people can take a direct shot of pepper spray, my brother can and says it's "an inconvenience" but that's about it. Personally I've never had the balls, or a good reason, to test it.

Saw him take a good hit from a shorted out popcorn popper once that promptly took him to his knees. 😆 So I bet a taser would stop him. Especially now that he is alot older. I never had to be very tough growing up because I had a big-brother that was a badass. 😊 Terrierman 1
MOPanfisher Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 I have been hit by a stun gun and sprayed with OC. Personally I would much rather be tased, hurts like hell, will stop you if it is done right but you recover quickly. Good OC is pure evil, it burns like hell. Have seen multiple sprayed, and instructed its use. There are people who can shake it off and keep going but fortunately they are few and far between. What I am familiar with is a 10% spray. It supposedly doesn't burn any worse than the 1% stuff but the effects last longer. You even get a another dose of it later when you take a shower. Streams, foams, fogger/cone all have their strong and weak points. Foam sticks better but doesn't work as well on a dog or someone with glasses also they can wipe it off and throw it on you, stream gives you some extra range, fogger types work well as it gets inhaled also but be assured when you use it you are going to get a dose of it as well, the cone spray is a short range in your face that also works well. While those special people exist, none of the ones we sprayed in training have ever had any interest in doing anything but getting to the water hose, usually withhelp None of them were highnor intoxicated though. Dogs generally don't react as strongly as people do but they usually back off and don't want to play anymore either. One of the problems we found some years ago was that most OC sprays are made with the propellentire and active ingredients in the same container, i.e. the can, like spray paint. Turn them upside down or at a severe angle (think lying on you back)all you get is propellers coming out. The Sabre Red has the active ingredient in a bag that is attached to the "out" tube and the propellant surrounds it, it will work regardless of the angle. I am sure others have that option but don't know for sure. And finally never spray and stay, spray and move laterally so that if they do shut their eyes and rush to grab you, all they get is air and hopefully a painful fall/crash into something. jdmidwest Posted December 12, 2018 Posted December 12, 2018 Missouri is Constitutional Carry now, no permit or training required. Before that, ccw classes required classroom training and shooting. Some trainers provide guns, others don't. I would think now you could get just the classroom training if you plan on staying in MO. Permits are still required in other states if you plan on visiting and carrying. Sorry to hear about your problems. The general population is getting alot harder to get along with. The simple minded ones that learn from their tv boxes and social media are ruining the country. I wish I lived closer and could help out more. I may see if there are any places around Joplin. Cherokee Firearms will rent guns to try on their indoor range. Good people. http://www.cherokeefirearms.com/
