Members CarpSlayer Posted January 13, 2019 Members Posted January 13, 2019 Looking to buy a new fishing rod and reel for jig/worm fishing. I could definitely use some advice. What's your favorite setup?
Ham Posted January 13, 2019 Posted January 13, 2019 I am completely satisfied with my Falcon Cara Finesse Jig rod. It’s fantastic, but every tool has its limitations. It’s better at 1/4 to 5/8 oz Jigs. Great for FB Jigs and worm fishing. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Bill Babler Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 Pair that with a Lew's Tournament Pro and you are absolutely set. The 7'2" Swim Jig or the 6'10" Finesse jig are very versatile. 5/8 would be max for either rod but 3/8 and 1/2 oz. are more than perfect. They throws a 1/2 oz. spinner bait, small whopper plopper and a fin simply excellent also. The Swim jig is my go to Summer White river Bait casting rod. Mike McCelland designed the Swim Jig and he also uses it to fish a hard head up to that 5/8 number. What ever you want to call it, Hard Head, Biffle bug or what every, the Pro's are really using it. It has cut a huge hole in the crank bait industry. Mike came in second here last year in an A-Rig derby fishing 3 baits that were not A-Rigs. He fished the Hard head on a Swim Jig rod. He fished a Rock Crawler on a Micro Cranker and he fished a McStick on a MMC jerkbait special. You do that in March and April on the White River against A-rigs and you are the man. Good Luck big c, snagged in outlet 3, CarpSlayer and 2 others 4 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

abkeenan Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Everything is dependent on budget. You can go as cheap or as expensive as you'd like. The options listed by Bill and Ham, you can't go wrong. Not knowing your budget, another option would to be to look at the newly updated Lowrider series that Falcon just released. Have a lot of the same application specific rods/actions as the Cara's in that Lowrider lineup. Certainly worth a look. I, myself, am a Daiwa guy so I love anything in the Tatula series. Great reels. Especially the SV model for throwing lighter baits. Have heard really good things about the Shimano SLX for the $100 price point but don't have any first hand experience with them. The jump up to a Curado K is another proven winner from Shimano. Good luck in your search. evilcatfish and CarpSlayer 1 1
Members sjcorpst Posted January 15, 2019 Members Posted January 15, 2019 A Dobyns 734 with reel of your choice would be a great all - around choice. I like the Lew's reels for both quality and price point. CarpSlayer, 96 CHAMP and NebSchmidty 2 1
Royal Blue Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 That new Lew's TP-1 Black is a great rod. I have one paired with a Shimano SLX in 8.1 and love it for mid size jigs. I also have a Falcon Bucoo paired with a Curado K and caught a ton of fish on that set up all last year. I can't remember what model my heavy jig rod is, but I have it set up with a Lew's Super duty and heavy braid. That thing is a tank. CarpSlayer and abkeenan 1 1

Good Luck I too love the swim jig rod. It’s my go-to stick for a fb jig and other dragging baits.
big c Posted January 16, 2019 Posted January 16, 2019 Take a look at the Denali Rod line. I switched to them a few years ago and are very pleased with them. The Kovert LT series is mainly what I use.
