Travis Swift Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Coming down in a couple of weeks and probably will do some wading this time. I have a pair of waders but they aren't insulated. What do you guys wear under your waders to stay warm? Do I need special pants or??
BilletHead Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Travis, You are going to get a bunch of opinions on this topic for sure. IMO if you think you are going to get hot enough to sweat something other than cotton so it will wick. Otherwise just layer for what you would be doing outside at home underneath. We use non insulated waders all of waterfowl season in sub freezing weather and layer according to weather predicted. I personally have more problem with chest area than legs and feet. The way winter is holding on you may be more concerned with what is out of the water than what is in it. Good luck and looking forward to you reports buddy! snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 In order of cold. Light fleece underwear, fleece wading pants or capilene long underwear. Both if it's brutal.
Flysmallie Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Under armor under non insulated. My feet and legs are never the part that gets cold. Whatever is above the water line is going to be the coldest.
Travis Swift Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 good info so far, thank you all.
netboy Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 I just use my fleece lined Wrangler jeans from Wally World. snagged in outlet 3 1
JestersHK Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Wool socks on first, (I pretty much wear wool socks anytime I'm fishing Taney...) then long johns, then a thick pair of socks, then fleece or flannel jammy pants. I prefer the unicorn ones... Then jeans. As Marty mentioned make sure you take care of the top half. Water is warmer than the air this time of year. Just get out there and if layered right will keep lower half plenty warm. Top half I use a mix of layers and hoodies depending on the actual temps. ness 1
trythisonemv Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Good old long johns , two pair socks, tee shirt , thermal shirt, hoodie jacket, fleece thermal waders if it cold cold and non insulated if it is just plain cold.

tjm Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Dress for the weather, water is always above 32F so if in doubt dress for 32F. I've fished many times when I had to wash ice out of the guides to cast in canvass waders. Wool clothing from the skin out was the normal then, but I had some really good polypropylene long johns that made me give up wool for the skin layer.
