Was on a shallow flat near McCord yesterday (Sunday 2/24) and noticed what looked to be vacant beds.  I know it's hard to tell in the picture but they were all about 12-18" across.  What species do you think is making these already?  Water temp 48 degrees.  A few hundred yards downstream, in deeper water (3-6 ft), was a school of carp and gar.

In water 48 degrees I'd be skeptical that those were "working beds". My guess is current blew that area out and created those spots or they were old beds. If I had to guess I would say white bass if anything given you were at McCord. Who knows though, mother nature has a way of changing things up.

48 degrees??? In what? 1 foot of water?

It was 42 water temp that morning at Indian Point.  We moved from there around 10 and put in up past flat creek in the James and it was 48 around the ramp in 8 feet.  Of course, our reading was surface temp.
