I fished AiA as well this past weekend. We probably caught 40 fish, 15 keepers, all on the Arig except for 1 on a jerkbait. I threw crawler and jerkbait half of the day while my partner kept the Arig in his hand. We definitely had to be on the right kind of banks for the Arig, you couldn't just go down any bank and catch fish. We fished the Campbell point/ shell knob area. We ended up weighing 14.54 and took 30th place, we never had a bite bigger than 3lbs, needed a kicker. We knew we probably wouldn't be in the money with 14lbs, but 30th place? WOW! the rock really showed off this weekend. Great weekend, great fishing, and congrats to the teams that finished at the top, it was a tough field.

If you are fishing a tournament that allows you to throw it, especially this time of year then you better be throwing it or you can expect to get beat with it.  That being said I am not a fan of it, I just don’t enjoy throwing it all day.  I really don’t know why, I’ve won some money with it and it is a fish catcher but I’m glad the circuits that I fish don’t allow it.  Hats off to everyone who did well fishing this weekend.  In the hands of someone who is really good, the a-rig is deadly, just no denying that.  It’s fun seeing those big bags come in, just wish I could do it with a jerkbait and swimbait.

Or you want us to drill holes in our spooks lol!

He heated up a heavy gage cattle hyperdermic red hot and shot in a salt water mix ...so many cc to get it semi neutral can’t remember how much...then seal it with a red hot tip of an ice pick baby bass color and g finish w red head worked in TR I suspect the sloshing sound in the bait was a sound they didn’t hear before and would pile drive it, many times it would get hit waiting for it to sink

MONKEYS? what monkeys?

to those that like throwing the a-rig, would you be opposed to allow trolling multiple lures at the same time??  i believe if the a-rig is allowed so should be trolling mutiple rigs.  they allow dragging jigs and c-rigs already.  and while we are at it, lets throw in using live bait.  now that would truly be leveling the playing field, and i would go for that.

If it's a legal means of catching fish in the eyes of the state and allowed by the tourney, I've got no issues. Everybody in the field can choose to use whatever legals means is at their disposal to try and catch the biggest bag. And I would bet that 9 times out of 10, the guy that puts the time in on the water finds a way to get it done over the average joe that just shows up Saturday morning armed only with information gleaned from this forum and/or YouTube fishing reports(which I am more than guilty of).

I'm not here to die on "A-Rig" hill. If they want to outlaw it tomorrow for the reasons Fish24/7 mentioned (which is the best argument I've heard against it so far) or any reason, you won't hear anything from me. Frankly, my wallet would appreciate it.

I’m 45, and I like it, but I also like using 3 hooks because it comes through trees. I’ve also read about Mr. Babler using it. Trust me, I’m a wart fanatic, love throwing a jerkbait, and I’m getting into swimbaits. The Arig is a viable option, not a magic bullet, and it does take a lot out of you to throw it.

I know 24/7, and he speaks the truth, but I also think in a circuit with the caliber of anglers of AIA, that those guys are legal, and that the standings wouldn’t change much without the Arig. Might get 5 pounds or so less on the weight totals, but the same guys that know where to sling their rigs, also know where to throw a jerkbait or float-n-fly.

Im just giving guys crap, but there is some truth to it. I heard some older guys bad mouthing at the USA Bassin tourney yesterday.   I threw it all day long and only had 11.36.   I did miss a lot of fish on mine with 3 hooks. I think the fish just go blasting through the middle of it sometimes with their mouths shut.   I figure between baits and rigs i have about $25 a piece in an a-rig.   Ill tell ya wht, my hound dog retriever saved us 7 times yesterday.  I never thought a retriever would work that well on a rig but it does great.

I'll be the first to tell you that I dislike throwing the arig. That being said I own a bunch of them and use them all the time simply because they work. My main complaint with it is that you don't get to fight the fish as much as you do with other techniques. Heavy action rod, heavy line, beefy swimbait hooks, to me it just seems like when you hook one you just reel it in. I enjoy fighting the fish which is why I think spinning tackle is so much fun. Just my opinion though.
