I don't blame you.  I'd love to have the time to restore an old '80's Chevy that I can actually work on.

I must say though....that push button Auto 4WD is way nicer than lockouts ! 😊

It is, but when you get out in the mud and lock the hubs and then hop in the cab and pull that 4X4 lever on the floor, there's no doubt your locked in. Don't have to hope electronics aren't gonna fail you when you need them most. Mine's rusted beyond restoration. Been kicking around trying to find a '67-'72 A/C body in halfway decent shape to throw on her.

Thanks guys, I just aired up what was there, rolled the dice and got her home. Well, bought a new battery, aired the tires, added a can of sea foam to the tank, nearly a gallon of antifreeze, and a can of brake fluid, and stopped at Walmart on the way for a pair of headlight bulbs because one blew...

anyway, got her home, I should go buy lotto tickets. Hadn’t been started in 2 years, and I managed to get from Bolivar to STL without even getting stopped for the out of date tags.

Now I gotta get the speedometer working, and figure out why the blower isn’t blowing... also has an oil pressure warning at slow/idle speed after warming up to temp. That one will be above my pay grade, and need a trip to a buddy...

We rehabbed my old F150 for the kids over about two years, with tremendous help from a friend. It's a genuine daily grab bag of disaster at times. But well worth it when it runs and is reliable.

Prayers to you and your family for the circumstances necessitating all the work.

If you're loosing coolant and you have oil pressure fluctuations then you have a blown head (and/or intake) gasket.    There's coolant in the oil.

Pretty common on the 5.3 and not too big of a deal to fix.

I wanna buy it !   😍

Standard cab/short bed trucks are so freaking hard to find.

I'll trade you this one, it has good tires!  IMG_20180817_170142005~2.jpg

My buddy and his parents even have one of those early 2000 step sides. I've always liked that style of Gm truck and you can't go wrong with the 5.3l. I've got a 99 extended cab that is about to rust apart, but it still gets me from point A to B and back with 309k on the engine. It does use a little coolant during the winter when I run the heat and I do have to add some oil every 1000-1500 miles. I'll keep feeding it until it croaks.

This one only has the V6. I'm not sure how much of the antifreeze I lost, if any. I think it was more just low because of sitting so long without being run or pain any attention to.

And thanks for the prayers Dave, this is a sad deal. My cousin lost his wife with cancer two years ago, and then got sick himself. He has out lasted all projections, but the end is getting closer and closer. COPD is a tough one.
