I think with different rules, some more probably would have. In a best 5 derby, I'm sure deep cranking would play a part this time of year. Deep cranking doesn't get you tons of bites all day tho, it's more of a quality fish kind of deal, so I'd guess these guys just decided that playing the numbers game main lake was a better way to win than targeting bigger, but fewer, bites up in the rivers.

I think the numbers game has been proven the way to win in MLF when you can use electronics.  Get on a pile of em and work em over.  Rinse and repeat.

It takes a lot of patience to get as good with electronics as these guys are. Learning how to set them up, learning what you are seeing... I always just give up and start casting and fishing every time I set out to spend a day just learning electronics. I'm just gonna have to take all the rods out of the boat and spend some time getting better at it.

Truly good ya think, or just having a good run ?

When I think of truly awesome pro fishermen the only ones that always pop into my head are Nixon, Clunn, and VanDam.  And I don't think anyone will argue that Clunn has been the best ever, so far as a guy that can do it all, anywhere, and do it consistently.

I wonder if there will ever be another guy like him.

He's been pretty good ever since he wont the BFL All American and Forrest Wood Cup in his early 20's. At the age of 29, he has already won almost 2 mill catching bass. His success has followed him from the FLW Tour to the Bassmasters and now in to the MLF circuit. Biggest five or total weight for all fish caught, he just flat out catches fish and gets it done. I mean, I guess you could say Clunn and KVD are just having a "good run" as well. That run just happens to be 30+ years long.

I don't think they can combine the two especially BASS and MLF.  When the top 80 parted ways, I think it was probably like a bad divorce.  Wife got the kids and the house and the guy got to keep a little of his future earnings.💀

So the guys who went MLF gave up on the opportunity to make The Classic?  Man, money talks I suppose.

Word is MLF is gonna buy the FLW and use their resources as an avenue to make the BPT. I also heard Vexus is not allowed in the BPT. That’s some hard feelings right there.

If that's true, I'll never stream a single episode of the BPT or watch another MLF broadcast. Anyone with feelings like that towards the Wood family is bat-crap crazy.

From what I’ve read, MLF and BPT tour are going to go to only White River Marine Group boats. I’m sure it’s much less about hard feelings for the Wood (or Pierce, since BCB would be out) family than it is about marketing. You own the circus, you get to pick the animals in the ring...

Johnny Morris didn’t become the owner of the largest freshwater fishing boat empire by missing chances to put his boats in the public eye.

The Vexus deal is true. The other company slips my mind. It’s not Falcon I know that. I believe it’s someone that left Triton to make their own boats. Bass Cat is still good to go.
