But I do like the option of firing a gurgler in around some brush, giving it a few twitches, and then in one motion I can pull it completely out of there and right back in at another spot. I don't have to reel or work that bait all the way back to the boat. It's efficient. Like
Lancer09 Posted August 8, 2019 Posted August 8, 2019 I'm late to the party.. I run a couple of streamer rods, lines are somewhat interchangeable based on what I am doing. TFO 8 BVK, and a Redington 7Wt Torrent. I fish 200, and 250 Grain streamer express lines. for smaller stuff I fish a handful of cheap sinking leaders that are only 5 foot long that I bought a few years back, good for a 5 or 6 wt. swinging leeches or something and I prefer it to stacking shot and working about breaking a rod because of it. The 7 wt. and 200 grain line can fire into the backing with a 8 inch double deceiver on 2 or three false casts if you are double hauling your keester off. Smallie Seeker and CLoyd 2
Smallie Seeker Posted August 12, 2019 Author Posted August 12, 2019 Been at Taney and haven’t had time to update. Friday midday after my dentist appointment with a half numb face I got to cast a bunch of 7wt rods and one sure did speak to me. It was the Sage Ignitor. It definitely blew everything else away, and it’s a $900 rod. But for 3x more than most other rods, it wasn’t 3x the performance. Side by side with a Sage Foundation that I could cast almost as far and almost as accurate, I couldn’t justify the cost. The Foundation got paired with a Lamson Liquid reel which comes with 2 extra spools that will come in handy, and some SA wf line that’s listed for bass that Craig at Hargrove’s recommended. Spent the weekend at Taney and got some time in with it casting while wading and drifting from the boat, and I’m a happy camper. Nothing landed on it yet, and as expected my Imperial 5wt saw all the action.  JestersHK, CLoyd, nomolites and 2 others 5
Members CLoyd Posted August 12, 2019 Members Posted August 12, 2019 Congrats on the new rod! I've heard good things about the Sage Foundation. Also, the Lamson Liquid 3-pack is one of the best deals out there. Smallie Seeker 1

JestersHK Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Nice rod indeed. My BIL has a real nice Sage, sadly it outperforms my abilities on the long stick, and will be a while before I take the leap on a higher end fly rod. Dang ultralight rods continue to eat up my fun budget...  trythisonemv, Smallie Seeker and CLoyd 3

trythisonemv Posted August 15, 2019 Posted August 15, 2019 My now go to rod is an 8 wt as i fish a lot of farm ponds and heavy cover streams. I use it for Euro nymphing and streamers. Never have really worried about the fly line size more worried about leader and fly. I did invest in an intermediate sinking leader for bigger water and for our big ponds BilletHead, CLoyd, JestersHK and 1 other 4
