oneshot Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Spent many years around Sacville. Funny depending on where you were. Sacville was pronounced sackville but the river was pronounced sock river. Back then we waded the river catching plenty Bass that made Hot Grease Bath. Did plenty swimming in it and I almost drowned it was bad enough I was unconscious. Really got to know women back then. Farm Girls were not shy. LOL oneshot MOstreamer 1
MOPanfisher Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 I have and still do use both ways, Sack and Sock. Just depends on my mood I guess.
fishinwrench Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 As far as I know it's pronounced sack. Fried bass fillets are good food. Farm girls are exposed to porn at an early age.
Flysmallie Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Officially Sock, truly Sauk, but most people, including myself, use sack.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Typical American adaptation of names from other languages. How about Courtois River?? My wife had a friend from France and she cracked up at the local pronunciation.

moguy1973 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 It is named after the Sauk Indians, so I would ideally say it's "sock", but it sure doesn't look that way. Nothing I can find online says any different. Courtois is "Co-to-way" even though it's probably named after a French fellow and should be "Coo-Twa" snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 -- JimIf people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles. -- Doug Larson
MOPanfisher Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 As long as when you say it, whomever you are saying it to know where you are talking about it doesn't matter. Kind of like the umpteen ways I have heard Pomme de Terre pronounced. My personal favorite is Pumley Tarr, but again since i knew exactly what they were speaking of it worked just fine. snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2
snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Go to St. Louis or St Charles and you better be fluent in French. Or know what the locals call it. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
