Season, bread, and fry a bunch of assorted fresh fish and you will have a hard time telling what is what,  other than texture....After 12 beers...NO CHANCE! Once the fish fry is planned...Its gonna happen, and it wont be frozen catfish from Sam's or Walmart. Have seen several boats work to spook the fish to a confined area, jab away, then do it again. It spotlighting/market hunting for fish.

Lights at night is a market hunting technique for any fish, fowl, or 4 legged game animals, but it is still only legal to use a lights at night for fish.Illegal for beasts or fowl. Time for a change! To much pressure & petroleum.

I’ve seen them gig trout down there before. The kept the trout/bass separate in a red stream team bag on the front deck. Assume there was a big rock in the bag just in case. Mid 1990’s, I’m sure the tradition continues.

If it swims it's gonna get stuck.  Toothless is gonna do what Toothless is gonna do.

I don't get why all of those smart guys at MDC don't want to admit that it's happening.

It doesn't make a lick of sense to permit gigging/snagging on a stretch of red ribbon trout water.

It also doesn't make sense to designate a stretch as "Red Ribbon" and then fail to keep very many trout in it.

It’s because Missouri glorifies this backwoods ignorance. Stuck in the past. I have friends and friends of friends who walk around their property and shoot things (coyotes, squirrels, raccoons) just to shoot them and leave them there where they fall. Same goes for gigging gar/ suckers and throwing them up on the bank.

Kinda what I was getting at.

We all pay a sales tax dedicated to "conservation".  For what?

Trout streams with few trout.  Closed hatcheries.  Lax enforcement.  Bad information.  Condescending attitude.  Stupid regulations.  Straight-up lies.

But we have nice parks and bicycle trails.

agreed bigtime......if you think the Red ribbon area gets nailed by poaching with a gig??? you should see some of the classic winter holes down stream where bass stay through out the Winter........straight up carnage on the bottom of the river and the amount of fish you catch with gig wounds is amazing. Do I report it??? give me a break!!!!.....they are friggin sick of me calling and taking up there time about it. Things are not gonna change on that front so I gave up. When the MDC said certain things to mine and my friends face at Powder Valley in the feedback meetings that was pretty much all I needed to know. Jesus man more Trout get eaten by Otters than get gigged......I know of a small creek that absolutely was decimated by Otters and was told to quit bugging them about it. I own a piece of property with a 5 acre pond on it that has been completely wiped out by Otters.

Otters re introduced by the MDC......obvious illegal gigging going un checked because of traditions and lack of enforcement power due to other more important things like deer hunting hahahahaha.

I'll stop now and go back to not giving a sh$t and shut up but, trust me there are some who see your side but, now I just worry about me and where my next adventure begins and how do I find a spot where some gaper with a youtube channel hasn't just been trying to make his outdoors career explode.

Not to go all "Dablemont" or anything, but there used to be good friend of mine on here that went by Brownieman, he was the son of a judge in Dent county and a previous fisheries division assistant manager for MDC.  Anyway, he suffered a wicked back injury while on the job, wasn't properly compensated (wasn't compensated at all I don't think), and went whistleblower to a degree.  Some of the stuff he shared sounded pretty "out there" at the time, but as time goes on it sure does seem to add up.  Private hunting, fishing, gigging parties at a discreet cabin and huge piece of riverfront land including boats, atv's, machinery etc. that we paid/pay for were part of it.

It might be total BS and I hope it is, but honestly he didn't seem like the kind of guy to just make stuff up, so whenever I ponder the things that MDC does, or doesn't do, I can't help but reflect back on some of the things my old buddy told me.   He's gone now, addiction to pain killers eventually caught up with him.   Gigging is/was a ritualistic thing with a group of MDC higher-ups and their special friends, or so he said, and that might possibly explain a few things.

True or not it wouldn't hurt to have it looked into. I'm not against some perks for those who deserve it, but if statewide regs are shunted because of some elite little group, and it negatively effects our gamefish and stuff, then that is kinda the line in the sand.    Isn't it?
