As long as you recognize that you hit one in the guts, just back out and give it 12 hours. I'm 99.9% confident at finding gut shot deer AS LONG as they weren't pushed too soon. Exactly, of you push them and jump them all bets are off. But give them 8 to 12 hrs and usually they are deal within 100 yards where they first bed down. Sometimes the dang deer just don't realize they are dead. Seth, Terrierman and Johnsfolly 3
MOPanfisher Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Old farmer we used to hunt on had a BIG German Shepard. Told us to bring by the ribcage off any deer we kill and just toss it out for Kaiser. Standing there while that beast crunched up bones like dog biscuits was disconcerting. Had a buddy who had access to the big cats at the Wilderness Safari, said watching lions demolish a deer carcass was terrifying and loud.
Terrierman Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 My uncle had a Great Dane named Kaiser. He was better than fair at catching the MC guys cruising the park across the street.
MOPanfisher Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 I don't know what an MC guy is, but am sort of afraid to ask.
MOPanfisher Posted November 26, 2019 Author Posted November 26, 2019 Let's talk knives. I am a knife slut, I don't even know how many I own, I just like to buy ones that I think will be perfect for ???. But I have used many different ones over the years. I seem to gravitate to a few. An Outdoor Edge swing blade because I like the "zipper" blade and the regular blade is pretty good. I also like my Knives of Alaska Alpha wolf, great steel, love the design and shape, hate the sheath. And this year I used a Moraknive companion Carbon steel, dad gum that thing is sharp, holds and edge, comfortable and even though it's a goofy sheath it is secure and the price point of $20 is hard to beat. I have had in think 3 morakniv companions and tend to give them away as presents to friends. Helping with a special hunt I get to test my knives a lot so I gravitate to models that I seem to always have on me. I also have a cold steel Canadian belt knife that has the chessiest sheath ever so I strung it on some 550 cord and wear ir around my neck/arm. It gets used a LOT because I can grab it cut something and stick nit back in he sheath easily. So what is your go to knife and why, and just because it was your grandpas knife if a perfectly good reason in my mind. My wife carries a Case XX sheath knife that was my dads.

nomolites Posted November 26, 2019 Posted November 26, 2019 I’m fond of a good knife myself; can’t stand to cook, skin, or work with dull tools. Everyday Buck 110 on my belt, hunting Gerber Gator folding drop point gut hook, fileting fish an American Angler electric, and in the kitchen a set of Wusthofs with sharpening tools. I have many others, but these are used a lot. Mike

The veritable Buck 110 is a tru classic, may not be the best at any one thing but works pretty good at all of them. I have an Uncle Henry Papa Bear version and a smaller uncle henry that rode on my belt at work for many years.
jdmidwest Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 I am a Gerber USA fan and Leatherman. I have a nice collection of both. EDC Carry knives are a Leatherman Folding knife and Rebar pliers with a Leatherman flashlight in the sheath with the pliers. Pocket knife is a Buck Stockman the kids gave me for Christmas years back. I will carry a Leatherman Sidekick or a Wave with a pocket clip if I don't want a belt sheath. Depends on what Pistole I am packing at the time. I may even have a Gerber Applegate auto on me for backup. I have a few to choose from...... Mine are collectors, but get used and have been used by me. I like a good blade that is sturdy and cuts. My deer processing knives are all Gerber. Exchange Blade Folder, Pro Guide Series from skinner to long blade. Gerber Fillet to cut silver skin. Gerber saws for bone. Gerber Ripper for skinning and gut cavity. Gerber and Fiskar axes. Gerber pruning to cut small stuff from hunting areas or brushing blinds. Pete Gerber and Blackie Collins were good. I walk away from most gunshows with a few knives too..
