OzarkFishman Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 Opening weekend was down by 10K compared to last year. Here is a map of the harvest numbers ... https://huntfish.mdc.mo.gov/hunting-trapping/species/deer/deer-harvest-reports/deer-harvest-map
Seth Posted November 22, 2019 Posted November 22, 2019 Plenty of deer just nothing mature in the buck department. I’ve put two button heads and a doe in the freezer so far though between bow and gun. I’m still passing the 3.5 and younger bucks hoping for something better. Johnsfolly and MOPanfisher 2
MOPanfisher Posted November 23, 2019 Author Posted November 23, 2019 Well my grandson came for the weekend (5 yrs old). After doing fun stuff like helping Papa make some cinnamon rolls, he wanted to go with his Nana to sit in her deer stand. Sure, OK, gave him a lecture about being quiet. Dropped them off and came back to house. He spotted the first deer a little buck that milled around before heading off. Then a doe and what appears to be a rabbit in deers clothing came out. Wife asked him several times if they should shoot it. He was quite sure that they shoot. So kapow, I hear the shot and think, nah no way. Then I get the text, yep. Turned out to be a little Button Buck, dropped wife off at house and grandson and I went out to field dress it. One think I lie about little deer is they are easy to clean. Hanging up washed out, as we have some crock pot roast with lots of carrots and taters. Guess I know what I will be doing for a little while after cinnamon rolls are eaten. MOPanfisher Posted November 24, 2019 Author Posted November 24, 2019 Pretry sure back when I ran beagles and 3 or 4 of us would have a food hunt I have had more ra bit meat in the sink than this kettle feller provided. I know I have been in on fish cleanings that had more meat!
Seth Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 The deer gods finally showed some mercy on Thursday and Friday. I saw almost 20 and took a nice doe Thursday evening, saw nothing on Friday morning and then doubled up on deer with a buddy on Friday evening. Gavin, snagged in outlet 3, nomolites and 2 others 5

fishinwrench Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 I just love that .3 -.4 business. I bet 0.13 million get creamed on the highway every night, and 0.021 million will die in a creek from a gut shot. 0.065 million will get caught in barbed wire fences and die of stress and dehydration. 11 will get killed by cougars, coyotes, or Pteradactyles every day....so x that by 365....... And 872 fawns were stillborn and eaten by possums. My math is terrible, what's the number gonna be on New Year's Eve ? Oh, and don't forget that 2 got struck by lightning last year.
