Speaking of science....😆

Who remembers when they were taking water samples from all over the lake, closing beaches, and issuing warnings lake-wide because of e-coli levels that were off the charts?

They feared it would hurt the economy, the lake was getting unfavorable press from the Globe and KC Star so they stopped testing.   Nothing was actually done to cure the problem, it still exists as much or more than it ever did, we just don't talk about it anymore.

So all the money and effort spent on that giant project was a giant waste.  It isn't in the news anymore so it is as if it never happened.

Yeah I remember.  That's when the giant boats starting showing at Tablerock.  The guy in the condo next me a couple few years ago said he used to go to LOZ but not after the poop scare.  Thanks!!

Do you fish below that dam from the bank or out of a boat?  Ive always wanted to fish the river, but have been too chicken to launch my boat.

I've seen folks on the river below Bagnell in 12' jon boats with electric trolling motors.  I wouldn't do it, but I've seen it a lot.

It’s the clowns in the big boats that are often the source of the problem.  Anderson Hollow didn’t have a source of E. coli other than macerators....pull them big boats off the lake and it is a much more beautiful place.

What kind of boat do you have?

16ft Crestliner Canadian, with a 2002 evinrude 70 prop.  What are folks fishing for down there? My brother and I have always discussed looking for walleye below the dams and such on and around the mississippi, but have never pulled the trigger.  I have always been intimidated by the Mississippi and Missouri!

I was intimidated by the Missouri until I spent 3-4 days floating it in a canoe during high water.

Now I probably wouldn't hesitate to take my 17" Xpress out there. Except for dodging barges, buoys, and wing dykes(which were all underwater) there wasn't much to it.

Alton Dam.  Hybrids, walleye, sauger and white bass mostly.  But anything that swims in there can be below the dam.  I've been on the Missouri in my 17' jet boat but I knew the channel well from living here.  I've been below Winfield dam years ago but it wasn't my boat.  Need to know the buoy markers when the wing dams are under water.

“Red, Right, Returning”

You may have heard the phrase, “Red, Right, Returning.” This expression refers to the

fact that when returning (entering a channel from the open sea or proceeding upstream),

a boater must keep the red Aids on the right (starboard) side of the boat. These Aids

have even numbers, and the numbers should increase as you proceed inland.
