So many of my daughters childhood friends studied HARD to get into Nursing......WHY?   That has to be right up there among the worst job choice's ever.   I've known lots of nurses, and have had several nurse girlfriend/lovers.....they are all miserable!    I honestly believe that 90% of them are only doing it because they think being a nurse affords the best opportunity to marry a Doctor, but that NEVER works out. 😂

 

 

What is it about people forgoing education to spend there time turning wrenches for meager wages???  That has to be right up there with the worst job choices ever, dooming yourself to an uneducated life and spending your time on the internet deriding others decisions.  I've known lots of boat mechanics, and most of them spend small fortunes on menthols and Marlboro reds and they were all dumb as rocks.  I honestly believe that 90% of them are doing it because there is no other profession that would hire them.

Really interesting thread. Every few days I go back to the first post and smile reading how it has evolved. Guess not many of us are fishin' lately. So my 2 cents from an old guy:  Having "faith" to me means believing in something that can't be seen or proven. I have no problem with science as to me that is just another good thing created by God. Each generation strays from the principles and beliefs of their parents. Not really poor parenting,  just different outside influences. Us "Boomers" were influenced by TV. Our parents were not. Think about our TV. The good guys always won. The policeman was a good guy and caught crooks. That is the belief system we had impressed on us at a young age. Not so today. Our kids were born into the internet influence. My grand kids(10) are growing up with video games,(ever watch 5 minutes of Grand Theft Auto?), and social media. Remember we grew up with "Sticks and stones ...but words will never hurt you". Now kids kill themselves over "tweets" . As our age group dwindles, we will become more annoyed by everything if we let ourselves. I choose to fondly recall the past, embrace the present and hope for the future.  Schools do a terrible job, in my opinion, teaching history. My teen grandkids look at some pics/medals from Vietnam and ask "who were you fighting". But just think, a history class has only so much class time and another 60 years of history to teach. The Civil War gets very little attention in most schools. WW2, How many current students can speak of a family member who fought in any US war?  My last rant: What ever happened to "look both ways before you cross the street" . Driven through a Walmart parking lot lately? Peace to all and Merry Christmas!

The increase in the cost of college has greatly outpaced inflation. Then you’re left with possibly hundreds of thousands in student loans. You better get a degree in the sciences or accounting or engineering. Combine that with the 100% proven fact that politics has entered the universities. It’s a total crap shoot. I’d say go to a local college first then spend your last 2 years where you want.

I almost totally agree ! 

All of the ones I've known aren't just dumb as rocks though, some are even more ignorant than that.  At least a rock knows to sit still, be quiet, and not cause more trouble than their mere existence creates.

Too bad you can't be more like a rock.  Let's examine how much helpful and thought provoking intellect you've shared around here.... 🙄

With all due respect, a good CNC machinist makes about 75-80K, Welders aren’t  far behind. Pretty good.

I almost hit that the last 3 years, but the question remains of ... WHERE DID IT ALL GO????!!!

Oh yeah, 2 kids in college 🙄 On an education that will most likely not benefit either of them.
