It allows the jig to pivot freely. Some say it gives it a more natural action.

Some prefer any fixed knot that uses two passes through the eye, as it helps keep the jig horizontal.

99% of the crappoe I have caught have been using a Palomar knot.  But I am always open to try something else.  Now all I need is the opportunity.  May need someone to help me haul all of the crappie that are going to mob me.

The FG knot is the Holy Grail you’re trying to achieve on a braid/Fluoro or braid/mono leader. It’s a tough knot to learn but it’s so thin and easily flys through the guides. It’s also so strong, maybe the strongest. Beats the uni to uni hands down for strength, which was what I was using before I tried the FG.

that tiny fluff you can see is the braid separating on the tag

Mitch I think you set a trap for me!  I finally got a few minutes tonight to try the FG.  Gotta admit it is without a doubt the prettiest little braid to mono knot I have ever made.  I ended up in a back room with my strongest glasses, a head lamp and on reflection a good shot of Scotch to steady my hands would have been a good idea.   I really needed an extra hand or at least some more fingers.  The first couple times I dropped the whole darn thing, the first actual not I hadn't gotten the mono snuggled down and had a loop in the half hitch some how.  But the last one was a beauty.  Hopefully I will get a chance to test it soon.

Well I almost did exactly what you did...except I had Bourbon 😂

all kidding aside, it took me quite a few times, and it’s even harder with dissimilar diameter lines

I can tie the fg but I jut don’t think it’s worth it.  It is beautiful when done though. Like a well palmered fly.

Me and my scotch are not afraid to admit that I had to Google palmered fly.  Still not sure but I saw a lot of purty looking trout bugs.

Mitch, you come by the house, I will supply the Bourbon.  I will "let" you tie leaders on all my rods that have braid on them.  I don't know what FG stands for but I know it is a hard knot to get right.

Ok, done deal 😂
