I will share a story of astinky bird dog.  Several years ago huntin pheasant with a couple friends in KS.  One of them decided he need to stay behind us to lean against a post and answer nature's call after a hearty breakfast.  He caught up with us a short time later with no problem.  Then we noticed that the younger dog was missing, called and whistled and he finally showed back up at the truck.  Yep he had gone back k to find the "leaning post" and do what dogs do, that GSP was absolutely covered in feces packed into his fur, he had rolled around it it multiple times.  Fortunately they had a dog box in back of the truck and eventually after much gagging got him loaded back up.  The best part was that the dog looked so proud of himself.

Amazingly my previous bird dog that I hunted with when I lived in Washington state never was sprayed by a skunk.  Buddies dog that was about 10 feet from mine got a full dose, but missed my dog.  Another time we were loading up after hunting, I just put my dog in the kennel and my buddies two dogs were off to the side of the lot rolling in something, that something was a bag full of rancid fish remains - that stink was so bad it just about made me sick, we had nothing to wash them off with so we had to head to the nearest creek.

My dog was also standing next to one of the other dogs when the other dog got bit by a rattler - again no damage to my dog.

Only thing that ever got him was a porcupine - he got quills in his mouth and snout.  Had to got to the vet for that one.

I will admit to being an old guy who loves the sound of a Colman latern and they still have their place.   But Wrench is right the LED oes are incredible for the amount of light they put out and how long the batteries last.  Old timers used to hang the lantern on a stick and let it hang out over the water to draw bugs and minnows.  Or maybe try those citronella tiki torch things, not much light.  When I walleye fish after dark keep a head light on my hat but only turn it on when I need it, like to land a wally, or to walk back to the truck.

It ain't camping unless I fire up the old man's Coleman lantern that he had as long as I can remember.  He always cussed and beat on it to make it work and when I finally get it lit I look up (I hope it is up) and say "see there Pop."

Agree wholeheartedly.  I loved mine dearly until it finally gave up the ghost.  Bought a new "dual fuel" one and it is a POS.   Hate it.   That's why we decided to try the LED ones.  They are the cats behind.

Skunks can be deadly for terriers working in the earth.  And at the very least, they pretty well ruin a day in the field.  The only good skunk is a dead skunk.

I've got my dad's lantern and Coleman stove too. Both would have been bought in the 60s. Can't seem to let them go even though I've got better stuff for both.

Well, after mine got skunked we were done for the weekend. Took them back to the room to try to get a little of the stink off, but wasn't too successful. Left an apology note and a big tip for the maid. Drove back to KC with the windows open. Not fun doing I-70 for 5ish hours with the windows open in November.

We have a Lantern that screws in the end of a pole we have to run everything off Propane.

Really easy out camping. We run Stove, Lantern and I know a Buddy Heater in the Tent. Off 20 pound Propane Bottle.

Have an Inverter I charge my Computer in the Pickup, watch Movies. If I have signal charge my phone and use my Hot Spot.
