jdmidwest Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 I broke down a few weeks ago and went to the local Boat Dealer/ATV guy/Furniture show in local mall. Sells Alumacraft and Evinrude. I left him with my name and number to price me out a 25 HP jet tiller and jon rig. Still have not heard from him. He lost me when he asked me what a jet motor was. I pointed to a jet ski in the show room, one of those but bigger. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Not sure how the software can determine that with a jet pump (probably can't). Any jet pump equipped outboard is gonna bark considerably more than a propped lower. Open exhaust. I know they have hydraulic steering, but I don't think they have the electric assist features like I-trim. I'm hoping to get over there and check them out in person soon to get more details on them.

My favorite take away on fast boats is when I was fishing in a redfish tournament in South Texas and a guy had a 300hp on an SCB 20 foot cat hull flats boat. He said it would do close to 90 mph. Then he said "I don't know where we are going but I want to be the first one there." I love my 1860/150 setup, but I am constantly thinking how nice it would be to have a smaller setup for some of the extra skinny waters.
wily Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 listening to that screaming meemie all day long... Would sound like you’re at a motorcross race.

Would sound like a motorcross race. Hard to get away from it all with those things around. reminds me of the tin boat bass club...and guys putting 150hp motors on their boats...just seems like a contradiction to me It isn't my favorite thing either, to be honest. I kinda reserve "River fishing" for a way to fish while distancing myself from outboard motors. Wading or paddling somewhere, being able to fish and not see or hear a motorboat for a whole day (or weekend) is a REALLY nice break for me sometimes. I kinda feel sorry for guys that get all depressed when their boat is going to be down for a few weeks, because to them that means they can't go fishing. Their brain has blocked out the fact that FISHING doesn't require owning a stupid BOAT. Greasy B 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 Yeah but it gets me to places I can’t get to otherwise. I don’t like the noise but I like the access it affords me. Of course mines a lot smaller. 1752 with a 40 jet and it runS real shallow. Scary shallow. And it’s light enough to wrestle around if need be. ZigJigman and Mitch f 2

I'm kind of "in the same boat" as you are. I really want something that I can use on lakes like what you have, but I also wouldn't mind something no frills that's easy to handle by myself and can go anywhere. A friend of a friend had 35 jet tiller on a 15' jon and it looked so effortless to control and get him where he wanted to go. I think @Blazerman has a semi v blazer with A 40 jet that he goes on the rivers and LOZ and table rock.

Yes, but not smallies. I've caught way more with the boat. You can piddle around the access while I cover miles of water. Good water too. Actually I have caught more big trout too. That's as much to do with less wadable water below the tail waters since min flow. Before I primarily wade fished and now I go no matter what the water level and actually prefer higher water.
