Pflueger Patriarch 25 vs Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 1000?

I'm having a Riffle MHX trout rod built for me and am looking at pairing it up with one of these reels. I've always used the Pfleuger Presidents in the past, but want to put something higher end on this rod. The biggest difference that I have seen is that the Shimano does have a faster gear ratio. The Pflueger has a few more bearings, but I doubt that really makes a noticeable difference.

Does anybody have any input on either of these reels?

I have two Patriarchs.  The thing I noticed most about them is the weight.  They are noticeably lighter than the Presidents and smoother operating.  They are my two favorite spinning reels.  To me at least, worth the money.  I gave up on Shimano spinning reels several years ago so cannot speak to the Stradic you're considering.

No Patriarchs for me either, I have a couple of Supreme XT's and my one complaint with them is they have a sort of flange deal welded onto the spool that is part of the drag clicker.  That flange will wear off as it has for me.  When that happens, you now have a silent drag.  So if I was looking at a Patriarch, I'd take the spool off to see if it has the drag deal on it.  Other than that, I would expect it to be a great reel.

I do have a Stradic FL, Landbigfish had a great sale on them a couple of months ago, picked one up and I think it is a great reel, very smooth, light, casts well, and it is just a well machined, well put together product.  I believe the only difference in the C-14 and the FL is that the C-14 has a lighter body and is about an ounce lighter overall.  I have read where the older Shimanos had a problem where they got wet and the drag stops functioning.  New models have a sealed drag, so I hope it doesn't happen to mine.

FL and the C14 have what they call a "long-stroke" spool, which I take to mean it's a long, somewhat narrow spool.  Supposedly it helps with casting distance.  I believe that it does, but don't know how that would compare to the Pflueger.  However, I have a 3000 size FL and it has a narrow spool for that sized reel and it looks more like a 2000 size to me.

You may have good reasons for wanting a 1000 sized reel, but if you go the Shimano route, I'd get the 3000, better line management and pickup than you'll get from a 1000.

And one more thing, and this could be a big one - the Shimanos do not have an anti-reverse on/off switch.  So no back reeling.  I like it myself as I never do any back reeling and don't have to worry about accidentally flipping the switch over and not noticing it until I went to set the hook, or lift something off a snag.

I have two CI4s and I love them; they get used a lot and have performed flawlessly.  Have the small one on a TFO ultralight and a larger one on a Crucial drop shot.

Shimano lost me as a spinning reel buyer decades ago. I had multiple reels at different price points bind up because they got wet. DONE.

the Patriarchs are very nice. I should probably start buy those.

I have a patriarch that is more than a few years old. It’s at the very back of my rotation as it’s just not as smooth as my shimano and daiwa reels. It is very light weight.

 I have a stradic fk that is buttery smooth although a bit heavier than some of the composite bodied reels available now. It’s still one of my absolute favorite reels. 
If I were looking for a new spinner that is a little higher end I’d start with the stradic fl or the daiwa tatula lt. The daiwa stuff is just fantastic. For a budget choice, look to the daiwa fuego lt. I’ve got two and they are very smooth reels, magsealed, and can be found well under 100$ on line.

I love their bait casting reels, but haven't tried any spinning gear. What model would be equivalent to the Shimano Stradic and Pflueger Patriarch? I'm pretty sure Mr Zig Jig had a higher end Daiwa reel on a Crossfire rod at Jig Fest this year that I was playing around with and it felt amazing! I'm not sure what model it was though.

My son recently bought a Pfluger President XT, it was nasty rough, he returned it for a standard President which is better, but not nearly as smooth as the Daiwa line. We have a few of the $50 Revros which are decent, and my newest is a Black Gold which I am very impressed with. The Black Gold is rated as a saltwater reel with sealed drag. No more Shimanos here till they bring back the back reel switch.
