I don't know how, but I read once a Lake trout caught was estimated to be 75 years old! “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
Deadstream Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 How big of hole was he fishing thru? Heck of fish! I'd love to hear "the rest of the story". Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Johnsfolly Posted March 2, 2020 Posted March 2, 2020 When I see an old fish like that I wonder if lake trout are having recruitment issues in those NH lakes. There may be old ones like that fish but are there any young ones?
Members Mr. Smallfish Posted March 3, 2020 Members Posted March 3, 2020 I've had 4 people send me the pic of that fish so far. Kind of gnarly looking compared to Bill's trout.

I have a buddy that spends half of the year in Vermont. I hope to get up that way some time to fish with him and to fish New Hampshire. Their mountain top pond brook trout initiative has me intrigued. That is where they fly and stock brook trout from helicopters into the mountain top lakes and ponds. If the hike don't kill me it would be fun.

We fished that lake for most of the day. That guy was there launching his boat when we arrived and was having trouble getting his motor started. He told us that he thought there were a few lake trout in the lake bigger than the state record! He even gave us a couple spoons to try out. He couldn't get his motor started and row trolled for at least 4 hours while we fished for brookies, lake trout and smallies. New Hampshire has some incredible fishing opportunities if you ever get the chance to fish there. A lot of people sleep on the NE for fishing. My Aunt lives on Cape Cod and you would not believe the incredible freshwater fishing on the Cape. Tons of lakes. Almost all species of trout, salmon, smallies, largemouth, pickerel. I've fished various lakes since i was a kid and every time it has been lights out. Of course, the saltwater fishing is great, too. Had a pretty busy life at the time, but when I had time I would go down to the Cape and fish Mashpee-Wakeby. In the summer I would fish a black Jitterbug at night, wet wading, and had some nights where I just killed the smallies. That was fun. I believe the pressure has increased since then, but I'm sure it is still pretty good fishing. snagged in outlet 3, Ryan Miloshewski and Johnsfolly 3
