The swelling has gone down a bit. Biggest complaint people seem to have with it is the grip/seat. I didn't mind it, but it does beat you up. Found it impossible to use with two fingers in front.

I really have not ever noticed that being a problem.

I never new NED fishing had to be so technical. I've always just thrown it on a 6.5-7' M/F spinning with anywhere from 6# mono to 15# braid with a 10# fluorocarbon leader. I've never really noticed a difference in catch rates with any of those setups. No need to crack the fish either. Just reel tight and pull in to them. They rarely come unbuttoned. I've got a 6' medium light spinning outfit that I have tried for NEDs and don't like it. Lose too many fish. Not sure if it's due to the rod length or me not setting the hook hard enough. The 7' medium/fast outfits just feel a lot better to me.

Philistine that I am, I get along OK with 7' Browning Airstream.  But I'm far from an expert.

As a rod builder I chose two st croix legend elite blanks 7’ and 7.5 ‘ med lite I used the soft touch mud hole grips and flexible titanium REC guides for a true light in the hand feel I chose 2 piece models which has allowed ez storage and travel easier on trips. After years of building most big name rods Sage, Loomis etc I feel the st croix are in a league of their own........at least in the spinning sector. One thing I don’t go nuts on are the reels I’ve found the pflueger mg reels 99$ to be all I need especially with braid/fluoro set up

I use (discontinued) but No. 8 Tackle Company (now 13 Fishing), Medium Light power, 7ft. Works perfect. If you need more sensitivity use braid to fluro leader.  7'6 seems like a big rod in my opinion for Ned Rigs. If I'm dock shooting, I use a  6'6 Medium Heavy so I can haul the fish out before they tangle me in the cables or around posts.

Why haven't I ever thought about dock shooting a NED or grub for bass?! It makes perfect sense. I've always just skipped jigs with casting gear or used wacky senkos on spinning gear. I'm going to have to try doing that this year.

It isn't, if you just throw it here and there. If you throw it 90% of the time, regardless of depth, season, etc, the nuance matters. Quite a bit, actually.

Some ML are great, some are basically noodles. Most work ok to get into it initially.

Great thing about the St Croix blanks is the consistency. And they're easy to match to the factory rods. Have an Avid drop shot blank I built into a light Ned rod (1/32 and 1/16), and a fine DS rod too. Have another SCIII 7' M fast tucked away in the basement.
