Not sure about what he thought about hippies but he sure did think he was a tough guy. But he was just another crappy LEO that policed with fear and intimidation. He’s one of those that gives good cops a bad name.

Got several officers that are good friends.  They are doing a thankless job that is made worse by a few bad apples across the Country.

Defend the Police!!!!!!

The bad apples are the direct result of the "'good apples" defending them because they are police, too many times wrong behavior is condoned by fellow officers just because the criminal belongs to the same union and drinks at the same water hole.

Yeah.  All you had to do to get on his bad side was have long hair.  Then you were a filthy hippie and ready for a little maglite action around the head and shoulders.

I don't completely buy the good apples are compliant theory completely. Certainly in the George Floyd issue the assisting officers could have helped but that situation doesn't represent them all. It may have saved a life in this case but wouldn't have changed much systematically.

Anyone that works in anything other than a small business type atmosphere with singular control from one person understands that unless your top management you don't have a lot of control. I had 2 co-workers that are the epitome of slugs....show up late, leave early, long lunches, constantly miss deadlines......all of our equals complained about them and their habits but management refused to do anything. Several of their peers have talked to them about it. Tons of off handed comments made about their work ethics both in front of them and management but nothing happened. Good people left due to the inaction.....those that stayed were often in situations that prevented them from doing anything like leaving.

At the end of the day, policing is a job and in the workplace there is an awful lot of politicizing and favoritism that goes on....without good management poor performers have a breeding ground for complacency and often their equals have no choice but to take it or leave. Especially when the issues are not a singular level of management but a systematic issue. Add in the fact most are covered by unions and its ultimately a government job and the issues compound rather fast.

Until you start changing the management.....and the decision makers.....not much will happen to bad cops until they kill someone.

Yeah the famous maglite made a nice little chip and dent on the fender of a car I spent two years building. When you can't find anything wrong with what someone is doing you try to destroy what they have out of ignorance and jealousy. I feel very fortunate that there were a whole bunch of people around when it happened.

I hate to rag on the media because that's what everybody does, sometimes justified, sometimes not.  But headlines that scream that somebody or some organization wants to "defund" the police seem to me to be rather misleading.  As far as I know, nobody is wanting to completely defund or disarm police departments.  Mainly, these proposals want to take SOME money away from the police departments, especially the funding for buying military style hardware, and put it towards whatever pet projects they think will reduce the NEED for police.  Now that is certainly something that can be debated on the merits of it, and it sounds pretty pie in the sky on the face of it.  But it is not what we might think of when we hear "defunding the police".  The police in any given municipality probably need better training, more clearly stated policies on the use of force that everybody can read, and also more clearly stated policies on not covering for the few bad apples that are enforced as much as possible.
