Had a telephone conversation with the duty officer this week.  I was curious about the discussion here and I  have a dock inspection coming next year.

Here are the highlights of the discussion:

  1. Docks are to be used only for boat mooring and the stuff necessary to make that happen.
  2. Decorations are not necessary for that and thus could be cited.
  3. I asked about the swings that we had to remove and later was told they are OK and could be put back.  His answer for that was that swings are not needed  for No. 1 above but the COE got tired of the dock owners complaining about the requirement to remove them so they let it pass.  They did not try to inform those that they had cited as they had no records.
  4. I asked how swim platforms are needed for No. 1 above and the answer was that they are not needed but either are just tolerated or they are considered loading platforms and therefore compile with No. 1.
  5. What's required for No. 1 is a judgement call made by the Ranger.
  6. He said that the new Shoreline Management Plan will be out by October 2020 and if it is not some COE heads are going to roll.

Hope this helps Table Rock Boater.

Call the office, meet a ranger at your dock, find out the gripe, argue your case to him about the rules, comply to whatever agreement you guys come up with and everybody will be satisfied, (not happy but satisfied!) I for 1 have no complaint for what anyone has on their docks. If the Core is going to continue to let thousands of docks cover table rock, it should deal with it because there will be no said Shore left to manage anyway. Lol
