Some of those OTHER fish

Flyfished some pristine trout water today. Just kidding.  Caught 7(?) species.  1 Bluegill, 1 White Bass, 7 Shortnose Gar, 2 Common Carp (and 1 Mirror Carp), 3 Grass Carp, 1 Silver Carp and 1 Bighead Carp(?).

Biggest Grass Carp measured 31":

Below on the right is, I believe, a Western Ribbon Snake.

I had shorts on, and had to tromp through some poison ivy at one point.  I was happy that I found a spot I could wade out into the water while I was fighting a grass carp....to wash that poison ivy stuff off my legs.  So far, it looks like that worked.  So I DID sort of take a bath there...and then took a shower once I got home too.

Flyfished a creek again yesterday.  8 species!  ...Including a "first" for me... (2) Goldeye.  In addition to those, I caught (1) White Bass, (1) Spotted Bass, (3) Bluegills, (7) Grass Carp, (7+) Shortnose Gar, (1) Bighead(?)Carp, (1) Channel Catfish. Nothing especially big, but I sure enjoyed it.

For perspective, it took me 10 years of significant effort to catch 7 Grass Carp on flies in Iowa.  I caught that many TODAY in Missouri!  Pretty fun!

I did.  I was so covered in fish slime and mud, I found a rocky spot to give myself a rinse before heading back to the car.  And then took a serious shower back at home.

So far, the slime hasn't smelled bad, its just....uh...gooey.  After a gar or carp, I usually have to scrape my hands off on any nearby log or rock.  And give my net a good slosh in the water after each fish.
