. Have never fished with FW but he needs to send me an invite for Whites, Stripers, or SMB

We can go chase Whites or LM on poppers/streamers any evening that you wanna cruise over.   Just gimme a heads up the day before and I'll meet ya here or at the ramp.  I'd love the company.

I've been on a 100% fly-fishing kick since June.  The bassboat hasn't been wet since then, been having a blast in the Jon boat.

Will call you Glen, see some future availability, but for that distance its got to be a  2-3 day trip. Spent 6 hours in the heat to shoot at no doves today. Did not pull a trigger, and most did not. Lots of missed shots (6 booms), on the field that had one or four flying.  Probably lost 10lbs today.

Doubt you'd wanna put up with me for 3 days, but you're perfectly welcome to.   We have an airbed and a spare room. And I'd be happy to eat your cooking 🙂

Yeah early season dove hunts..... I've had my fill of it, don't miss it.   I have this thing about eating a bird that's been dead in my vest during hot/humid weather for 4+ hours.   I guess toting a cooler bag is an option....but that's just one more "thing". Plus, there's always SPIDERS everywhere in the fields this time of year, and I turn into an adolescent female when a spider touches me.    I wish I could pop them out of the road and driveway here with my airgun.  I could gather enough for a couple meals in 3-4 days if it was legal.  Be alot more fun.

You need to head further upstream on Big River to catch smallmouth on a regular basis. Get ahold of Joe D, he does some guiding on the Meramec & Big. He's a little rough around the edges, but a super nice guy at heart. Zoom Fat Albert Grub and a 1/8 or 1/4 oz  head with a weed guard is a great numbers bait. Zoom Super Flukes in White, Pink, or White with Chartruese tail work really well...4-5/0 EWG Hook. Good Luck.

Wait, what?   @joeD is a guide?   I didn’t know that.

When have you been going fishing?  If you are wade fishing from the BR's public access points, they get fished pretty hard. I would want to go early or late or not go at all.  By early, I mean you are on your way to the river while it is dark or you are on your way home in the dark.

But don’t get any ideas because I’m taking him to Minnesota in the next few weeks!

I feel your pain.  Hang in there, you'll get it.

I've caught plenty of stream smallmouth in Illinois and Iowa, but have yet to run across any in Missouri.  It'll happen.  Big River is one of the places that was recommended to me, and I haven't visited it yet, but it sounds like your struggle would be similar to what I might find, since I'd be on foot as well, and flyfishing.  Sounds like I'd have to head further upstream on it than I was first considering.

Good luck, and keep us informed of your journey!
