You hear that all the time though, people (biologists) saying that fish don't have the capacity to think, or reason. That they are just a nervous system reacting to stimuli. That just ain't true. They've got more going on in that pea sized brain than we even can comprehend. snagged in outlet 3 1

Otherwise I would just have a string and piece of bone for hook. fishinwrench and nomolites 2
jdmidwest Posted September 10, 2020 Author Posted September 10, 2020 Stripers it is. Been wanting to catch a bigger one since I hooked one on the TN below Pickwick this spring. Buddies are all fired up too. snagged in outlet 3 and fishinwrench 2 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Gavin Posted September 10, 2020 Posted September 10, 2020 A man has gotta do what he want's to do. Before the Dawt Mill removal, you could catch them below the mill dam at times. Think they are resident in the summer now. Water is allot cooler than the lake, but within a Striper's preferred temperature range.Probably resident year round if shad run up if the fall/winter. 58-60 degree water almost year round. Thermal refuge. nomolites 1

I had a pet Praying Mantis years ago hanging out on the Hummingbird Feeder. I think it was trying to catch one. I kept it fed in the afternoons with grasshoppers and tomato horn worms off the garden, by hand. It would be there the same time after I got off work. It seemed to have a sense of reason. I have almost domesticated them. They have a sense of trust. Bees, they have a sense of reason. They have an inherited sense of reason. Black will get you stung because of bears and skunks. They remember a white suit for a few days also and will attack. But they don't come after me wearing anything else. When I decided that I was done being a poor grad student I took the PA state fisheries Civil service exam. I had the third highest score in the state with only two jobs open at the time. So no go in PA. I actually got a ljob offer from the MDC to work at Blind Pony Hatchery. I didn't take the job. The pay was a bit better than what I was getting as a grad assistant but I wasn't sure that I wanted to live in MO. I ended up taking a job in FL that was double my grad wages. That job eventually took me to MO. Go figure. Gavin and snagged in outlet 3 2
