vernon Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Felt obligated to issue the normal "storm warning" alert prior to our arrival downrange tomorrow. However, I AM pleased to announce that it is my intent to spare the area yet again of any significant weather event. This will make two in a row for those of you who are counting and you're welcome. I dunno, maybe I'm just getting old but I'm also still feeling a little guilty about the devastation that I wrought this spring as well as several consecutive previous visits. After considerable review and reflection it was concluded that I just might have gotten just a little over the top and that's not something that I take lightly. I mean even most international terrorists have at least some sense of conscience and compassion. All that being said you can confidently anticipate another full week of pleasant fall temperatures, mostly sunny skies and crappy fishing. I recall you said are a retired Fed or still a Fed. I worked as a DOE subcontractor for a long time and have questioned "sense of conscience and compassion" for some of the Feds I had to work with. One of my stories is that in the early days of my career I had included in one of my design to require a certain make of valve which required a single source justification. (I'm sure you know that drill). I made my case of this and have much industry proof. My Fed counterpoint was so adamant against my choice that he had me removed from the project. The wrong valve were installed in the multi million dollar project and some 5 years later had to be replaced but as things were the cost was now 10 times the cost of the entire first job. I found out years later that there was an Inspector General review of the mistake and that the Fed who required the wrong valve said that I required it and he wanted the right valve. As far as I know my company was not penalized nor I as they knew the true. Another time while I was managing a team effort (all Feds except for me) to solve a problem and arrive at cost effective solution. I disagreed with this one lady Feds solution and little did I know that she complained to my upper management and I lost my raise that year because if it. She claimed I dissed her. Also I just had multi kidney stones and an operation for same, so I'm a bit crabby. ☹️ Also my wife will not let me get in the new Ranger today because of the opioids I am taking for the pain. I thought about deleting this but it made my kidney stones feel better as I unloaded here. That said, I am sure you are in the category of those Feds I knew were the good ones. 😊 Bobby magicwormman, Terrierman and Daryk Campbell Sr 3

I don't know how many times I said to staff and supervisors, "And you guys wonder why everybody thinks we're a bunch of idiots?" As you alluded to, the single source justification is one of the all-time nightmares of a discerning fed employee. The other guys just didn't care and put it out for bid regardless. As for whether or not I was one of the "good ones" I can't say for sure but I promise I tried harder than most to do the right thing but, man, you talk about being outnumbered and outgunned. My honesty and outspokenness in trying to do the right thing probably cost me many thousands of dollars over the years in promotions because I wasn't very good at just playing the game and going along. That being said I still stand by previous comments I've made on this site about the majority of the people at the COE. I still say that group had more of the good guys than any other branch I served in and it wasn't close. The problems at the COE always came from above and usually way above. And as is typical of the government the higher above the worse the guidance got. I am retired by the way - seven years this past March and I sure don't miss it. Sorry about the kidney stone deal😬. Hope you're better soon and mom will let you go back out and play with the new boat! magicwormman, Terrierman and Daryk Campbell Sr 3 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." bobby b. Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Vern, sorry about the rant - not sure what got into me other than the stones trying to get out of me. Hope you have a good trip and just so you know we need the rain down here - hope it holds back though for your trip. Bobby
Terrierman Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Kidney stone was the most intense pain I've ever experienced. Good luck bobby b. Hope you have better luck passing the verdamnt thing than I did.

I know your story all too well and I don’t mean the stones. I lived that crap almost every single day for over thirty years. Mind boggling most times. It’s like could you do it stupider if you tried? Doubtful. Get well buddy! And I’ll see what I can do about that rain although I gotta be careful....... magicwormman 1 "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."
