Every time I turn around there is talk of New Research on Cancer.

But it seems for years your only option is Chemo and or Radiation.

Is there New stuff out there or are they just going with what they have been doing and collecting money?

There is a LOT of research going on for treatments.  Some of them are radically new such as using measles genes to attack cancer cells.  Others are merely refining the various options of chemo and radiation with regard to how much, how long, combinations etc.  For stuff that is already out there refining the treatments is relatively simple, for new drugs it's quite a bit longer and for the radically new stuff it is years before it can make it through the trials, tests, insurance companies, and into common use.  When I went through my Bone Marrow Transplant one of the Drs. who did a lot of research work said, "in 10 years you won't even recognize the treatment regime", that was 5 years ago and so far it's basically the same still.

Seems if you are diagnosed with Cancer they still insist on Chemo.

I know you have other options but seems they don’t put them out there. Most time they say this is what we are going to do.

Like Pete @snagged in outlet 3 my wife Mrs. BilletHead went through breast cancer. The treatment she received was not pretty and it literally broke my heart to watch it.  But through the grace of God, lots of prayers and the mortal folks that treated her she made it through. We do live in a good time. It wasn't long ago any cancer diagnosis was a death sentence. Now not so much if it is caught in time. Treatment is changing day by day. Now there is specific treatments for different types of breast cancers and all cancers actually.

I know this was 30 years ago but someone I know was hours away from dying and the Hospital was wanting to give him another Chemo Treatment. Me and my wife was talking it over, like me he had 100% Pay Insurance.

Guy I know went through Chemo few years ago and had a hard time with it. Cancer has came back much worse, they are hitting him with Chemo even though they are also telling him that it probably won't help.

I am sure you have a choice of what you want to do. I know you are a man of faith. What is your personal alternative?   I am sure not going to take any suggestions from anyone on something as important as this you are going through from a forum group such as this. I would take fishing, boating and hunting advice in consideration though. :)

I would advise anyone facing cancer treatments to research the type of cancer you have and the treatment options.  There's a lot of info out there on the web.  You'll at least know what you're dealing with and be in a position to understand what the MD's are telling you.

One benefit I have is Drs that arw in completely different systems.  KU and Mercy so when they agree it makes me think maybe they are doing the best job they can.  I have never heard of anyone in the final stages being pushed toward another chemo or radiation treatment, usually at that point it is pain control and keeping them comfortable.  I remember my grandmother who developed leukemia way late in life saying nope not gonna do another treatment.   I think she was 86, was never a question how it would end and she decided she would go her way and did.  I  hoping for several more years and to keep my remaining factory original parts, and be able to retire and even enjoy it not just survive.
