The MDC fisheries professionals say... "Nope, nearly impossible, basically can't happen".

Do the smaller (under 14") ones quiver like a Pure Romance vibrator when you grab them by the head?   If so they are mutts.

Yes and I will take some pics of the baby Hybrids I’m catching as they are very obvious they are hybrids. I am catching some very nice Whites as well some 3.5 to 4lbers

I need to weigh a few big Whites, as I'm not sure what they weigh.  So far my biggest pure White bass (caught several years ago) was just shy of 22" and I really wish I had weighed it.    I'm going to guess 3.25 but it may have been a bit more.

The average big one on my end of the lake is 19-19.5 but I catch a few 20 inchers every Fall (but NEVER in the spring....which seems kinda odd).

I have weighed a few but, never have I caught a 22 holy F!!! I have weighed 20’s that were 3++. River run White bass fight like they are bionic. Here is a 20 inch White that weighed 3.4 I also understand why you feel the mutts are a detriment to the true Whites, over the past decade I have seen the population change to a majority of Hybrids versus Whites which seemed weird but, it’s true for the river I’m fishing that does feed the Mississippi

@FishinDave, just remember the time of year, and more importantly the conditions.  Temperate bass aren't much of a slave to water temp.

They'll run up the creeks after a high water event just about any time of the year (sometimes it doesn't take much of a rise at all).  Usually just to the first couple of riffles.  If they find food up there they'll stick around awhile.  If not they'll retreat after a day or two.   Seems like the clearer the water is... the less likely they are to wait around very long if the foodbelt isn't running full tilt.

If you can manage to be there when they first start to show up, you can really load up on them.   Timing is everything.

Agreed with everything Wrench said but, these Temperates are going from one river to another. Thru my journeys in chasing these goofy SOB’s the water temps I find them to be most active is 54 to 57 but, as Wrench said you can catch’em all year round. I don’t have the patience to do it other than that zone because they are too frustrating and go chase easy fish like Smallies and Largemouth  🙂

@fishinwrenchsounds like you are About fish that live in a lake these fish are in a river.

Good point.  Beings as current is always present there, they may not move around in the same pattern.

On the Truman and Bagnell tailwaters they know the difference between dam releases and sudden increased inflow from the creeks.  Even though there's always some current in the main channel they will still shoot up the creeks after a good rain.

Right there with you at 20 and high 3s, never broken 21 or weighed one in the 4s. That white in the pic is a pig! Maybe you're catching a higher percentage of hybrids because your timing is getting better.@fishinwrenchalmost 22" WOW!
