Went down yesterday for the start of C&R and it was a hoot! I met up with Buzz down by the old fish cleaning station and we started from there making out way upstream. Right away we were hooking up with fish. Within the first hour Buzz had caught 30+ fish and my count wasn't as impressive. I kept having issues all day long with either losing jigs or with my line. After the second fish I was having problems! Word to the wise if using a co-polymer line, don't leave a short tag after tying. My second jig the fish just took off with it after I got it in. The knot slipped through all the way in the colder water. Leave a longer tag piece! After that my fingers were frozen so I was having a hard time even tying on another jig. Had to go back up to the truck and warm up my hands before I could tie another one on. In the meantime Buzz was extending his lead over me by a LOT. I think I only managed half of what he caught in the first hour. After that we started fishing another hole all to ourselves and I think we hit 6 doubles in that hole. It was crazy, sometimes my jig would just hit the water and they would engulf it. I had 2 that almost swallowed the jig completely! That just doesn't happen when fishing jigs. Buzz said he had couple like that as well. Almost didn't matter what you were throwing, but at times it did. After the jig that was catching them almost on top water I had to replace it because it was failing apart. I thought I had tied one on that was close, but I didn't get another bit on that color. So all in all it was a stellar day for catching. Never really saw any big fish in there. Biggest I saw would have been around 20". I ended up with 60 caught for the day in 6 hours roughly. Although I probably only fished for 5 of those since I had to re-tie several times because I kept loosing jigs and I had to re-spool line later on. Buzz ended up with 150 for the day. That sound crazy I know, but I believe him.  Everywhere you looked you could see people catching fish though. If you were down there yesterday and got skunked, then you suck at fishing! It was really too easy when you look back at it in perspective. On an interesting side note, I saw a racoon down in section three that was just sitting there behind a guy fishing. I asked the guy about it and he didn't even realize it was behind him. It just sat there and never moved. As big as it was my guess was people had been feeding it. That and it wasn't scared or it didn't just run away like it should have. Great day to be out and on the river!

Sounds fun!!

questions:

How many loops do you tie for your knot?

What brand line do you use?

The knot I just clipped way too short because I didn't have that issue after that. I should have known better though. P-line #4 CX. The spooling issue was just the case of me getting in a hurry and not getting all the twist out. Both issues I could have avoided had I taken the extra time and not been in a hurry.

I meandered down last night right at dark driving through. I was hoping they would dump out the golden trout they received but looks like there still in the raceway at the hatchery.

Also one raceway has quite a few good sized fish nothing huge but lots of nicer fish.

Hoping they stock those goldens soon as thats on my list.

Will this be a new addition to missouri trout parks Devan?

I don't have a clue RR has been getting trout from Montauk(and a private hatchery I believe) while the construction was on going. I noticed 5 or 6 in a cage in the raceways back several months ago. Now there is probably several dozen in the cage.

I am not in the "know" but heard they did not stock any of the goldens during catch n keep season but had heard a rumor they would be kicked out during CnR. I asked about them on the facebook page....several people on there are in the "know" and didn't get a good response.

Again just a novelty mostly but I would like to catch one and right in my back yard would be cool.

Are these Golden Trout or Golden Rainbow trout? Or Palomino trout?

Yeah, @Devan S. I posted before I saw your last reply, I'd guess they are the golden rainbow variation and if obtained outside MDC may have come from Crystal Lake Fisheries of Ava, I read where AGFC had bought some trout there that included some  golden rainbows to be stocked in the White.

@netboy has been posting his golden rainbow catches from those being released in Arkansas.
