I know.  I still like the venison though.  So still go.  But it's now almost sad to kill anything.  Almost.  But I still do.

I have sat in my wife's stand many time since she started hunting about 2001, think I have killed 2 there and some out of my stand before I couldnt get into it any more.  I have set in her stand and watched a LOT if deer, one year playing wolf howls, cougar screams, and finally sasquatch howls from my phone to encourage a doe and to fawns to lleave so I wouldnt be seen leaving her blind.  Realized I was mostly just escaping the house and taking a rifle because well one might attack me, or I might see a coyote or a stock running dog.

I love shooting things I enjoy eating. The only critter I shoot and don't eat is a coyote. I've had several chances to shoot a bob cat and never do. Just don't see the point in killing one just to mount it. I'm sure it would save a few turkeys by taking one out, but I see plenty around nearly every time I go out in to the field. Stray dogs have ran deer by me a few times and I know most would probably shoot them for that, but I couldn't do it. The only way I could see myself shooting a dog would be if it was extremely aggressive towards me, another person or our pets.

I think this is part of the reason why I'm not that great at putting down big bucks. I'll pass on smaller bucks, but I don't really put in the time to try and pattern the big ones. If I see a good one then I'll shoot it, but otherwise I'll just pop a few does for the freezer and be totally fine with that. Once I get three deer in the freezer, my drive to hunt fades since I will just be donating anything else I harvest. One of my buddies has already harvested 11 deer this year and is still out there hunting hard trying to get on a big buck. He is way more mad at them than I am. I'm way madder at fish than deer. 😄

Yep, I used to get all fired up about deer hunting, but me and 2 of our kids are the only ones here that enjoy venison.  Plus I have customers that are always dropping off loins and bags of their best batches of jerky.   There's no reason at all for me to kill one.  If I had any more venison in the freezer it would just get fed to the beggar....IMG_20190114_192204768~2.jpg

I was thinking of CWD . The deal with it is it is in the Spine and Brain.

Most butchers cut Deer just like Beef cutting the Spine if they debone it wouldn’t have this problem.

Lymph nodes carry it too.  Don’t mess around with the neck meat

I was fired up to go Deer Hunting this year until I went scouting and found I can’t walk any distance.

Plus I can’t control my peeing and have found with Cancer Treatments I mess myself with no control.

Plus I shot my Rifle off hand found I shoot low, plus I can’t chamber another round.

Soooo!

Can your son fill your freezer?

Dropped off a deer at the local processing plant about noon on Saturday.  Picked it up today.  So, you never know.

Edit:  There were six or seven people on the floor when I got there.  Working up venison the right way.  Clean, place looked great.  Nice looking equipment and people.  Not cheap but worth it to me.
