My mom used to make what she called Runza's when I was much younger. Those were good...but what you have here looks way better! I'm picturing some nacho cheese in it.....mmmmm. Bierocks go way back before Runza's. You can pretty much stuff them with about anything. We make the dough from scratch. In these are a mix of ground venison, cabbage, sauerkraut , onions, mustard , S&P, thyme, malt vinegar and beer. Good from hot to cold and in between. Egg wash on top and we topped with everything bagel seasoning. ness Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Runza is a trademarked name for a bierock used by a restaurant chain based in NE. Made up by the founder of the restaurant. I first had a bierock in college on the late 70s made by a Mennonite woman from western KS. We also used to get them made by church ladies when we were out west for the pheasant openers. It’s generally seasoned beef, cabbage and onion inside a buttery dough pocket. They’re pretty common in KS and becoming more so. We’ve got a Runza restaurant in Lawrence. I drover over a few nights ago just for Runzas. They do a great job for a chain. Free State Brewery, also in Lawrence, has them on their menu occasionally. They do an excellent job too. ness 2.3 wants me to make some. Haven’t done that in a while. nomolites and BilletHead 2 John

BilletHead Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 7 hours ago, luckycraft said: But what was the kill count? Well good question and I didn't think anyone cared about that. More interested in the good eating Bierocks. So according to @curtisce he shot better than I did claiming he got his limit. I guess this is true as he got his limit of two allowed mallard hens. I did not do as well according to Curt's theory . I only got two mallard drakes and I was allowed four so I only got half my limit. 🤣 As for number of shots taken I'm not going to say. I think I had a better average! ha. Multiple spoonies could of been taken but we opted not to shoot at them. It was fun. Open water was the key. Curt had the plan on getting to the "X" but we were second group into the drawn section and the other group got it. We watched many birds work the guys in the open area. I mean many, many birds work them but birds would work down and not finish up. They shot what they thought they could get and did get a few but for as many birds as they had work I would call our hunt better. We were close enough to them a few birds would break out of the ones over the open water set up and began to work us and finish feet down and back peddling into our spread. Curt may add more input to this but it will probably be bragging on getting his limit ! semble, nomolites, ness and 3 others 6 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Gavin Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Nice, went out yesterday am before work. Saw a few bunches, a few worked briefly but none committed and dropped into the timber hole we were in. Heard some shooting from some nearby blinds in flooded standing corn. snagged in outlet 3 1
DADAKOTA Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 Plenty of ducks at Grand Pass. Had back to back reservations. Our kill was 50% mallards and 50% others including pintails, greenwings, and a few spoons. Never have found a person that could tell a spoonie on the dinner plate from any other duck. Have heard some say gaddies are unfit for consumption. Other than size of the breast I've never found anyone that could tell a difference. Late season mallards with a heavy layer of fat on the breast do make the best duck bacon. semble 1
curtisce Posted November 25, 2020 Posted November 25, 2020 I'll mostly agree with @BilletHeadon our shooting. We shot a one that was too high, missed on a long but doeable. I had the best shot of the day. Shooting from a layout blind hitting a hen that was flying behind us.I just leaned way back and shot with the gun upside down. ness, Daryk Campbell Sr and BilletHead 3 The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check
