drew03cmc Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Like it asks, do you prefer wading small creeks to floating bigger water? Im 50/50. I floated a pretty popular 5 mile stretch of the Gasconade this summer and lost the biggest smallie I've ever had on, but those days where you can sneak up on those 15 to 17" fish in 2 feet of water on waters too small to float, those are special days. I've become a huge fan of a couple rivers that I won't dare speak of here, but that you can normally cast across with even a gentle cast on a good, short casting rod. These are the types of rivers that, although called rivers, are best suited with the creek moniker. These particular streams have a few holes that I dream of, not because of the fish I've caught there, but because of the ones I've seen or lost. I'm a certifiable creek nut and always will be. It's easier on my back than floating normally and gives me something new to experience every time out. Johnsfolly, Daryk Campbell Sr, dpitt and 2 others 5 Andy

Lots of memories of casts that led to big fish or those that just thought that they were big fish. BadKarma, drew03cmc and Daryk Campbell Sr 3
moguy1973 Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 Really like wading creeks, but there's always that inevitable time where you are wading up or down a creek and you come to a hole that is too deep to wade across and banks too steep to traverse. And unless you want to go for a swim, you have to just fish the hole and turn around and head the other direction. Smaller creeks that doesn't tend to happen much but there aren't bigger fish in smaller creeks typically. I really enjoy floating when I have the time too. Gavin Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 I prefer to float but I like to wade fish too. It really depends on how much time I have. I try to allow time for scouting/wade fishing on travel days.
FishnDave Posted November 23, 2020 Posted November 23, 2020 I enjoy wet wading. It seems a bit more personal and you can really spend time getting to know a section of water. You can also spend too much time fishing unproductive water if you aren't familiar with the stream. I need to to try floating streams more. You can certainly fish MORE water more quickly, and get to places that aren't pounded by folks on foot. Most of my floating experience is on still waters, and I can vouch for how stealthy floating is...you can sneak up on all sorts of things...fish, turtles, weasels, waterfowl. I wasn't even trying to be quiet, but heard a young couple rushing to put some clothes back on as I waded out of a creek onto a sandbar. Boy did they look GUILTY! 😂 Not much eye contact happening between any of us as I walked right by them to reach the trail back to my car. Silly humans doing the human thing...
