Bill McClellan's article this past weekend was pretty good.  To paraphrase, he said there used to be a time, not that long ago, "when people believed that government had the absolute right to command almost anything.    Like plucking a young, single man off the street and sending him to a faraway place where other people might try to shoot him.

In today's America, it seems unimaginable.  If our government were to say, "Because of the pandemic, you have to wear a mask, but it will be only for a couple of months because vaccines are on the way," many people would refuse.  They would do so proudly, loudly.  They would talk about freedom."

This sounds an awful lot like what you are saying Basfis.  This generation is a bunch of wimps.  Can't make simple sacrifices for the greater good.  I guess its the age we live in.  

If I recall, we (USA) largely stayed out of WWII until, we were attacked... I’m going off history lessons not personal experience. Not sure it ties better to Covid or my point about freedom until infringed upon. 
 

there was unity around a collective cause for WWII with much inspiration. Unlike today’s climate.

My employer requires us to wear a masks.....not a single person has quit yet because the corporate world is infringing on their rights. Half a dozen+ of them piss and moan nonstop because "They have to wear a mask" but NOT A SINGLE ONE has the guts to say forget this I quit. 

$$$ talks.....BS walks.

I hope their "personal freedom" seeking propaganda isn't this weak when it comes to the 2A.

For starters:. This economy is FINE, especially considering all the malarkey going around.

Precisely my point, and that of Mr. McClellans's as well.

Where is the unity around this collective cause?  Trump declared he was a wartime president, did he not?  He has not inspired or persuaded the nation to pull together and defeat this enemy that came to our shores.  Rather, his strategy was to pretend we weren't invaded, that the invasion wasn't that bad and soon would be over, "like a miracle", it would all go away.  3000 per day now, it hasn't gone anywhere.  Commander in Chief's preoccupation was getting re-elected, and golf.

I believe choices have consequences. The results are on the one making choices. Sometimes the consequences suck and it’s still their choice until they force it on someone else. 

 

But they ARE infringing upon you and yours.  THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT HERE.  For about the thousandth time, you wear masks to protect others FROM YOU, more than you wear a mask to protect you from others.  And you avoid crowded indoor gatherings to protect others from you as much as you from others.  If everybody is on board with this, the chances of ANYBODY getting it go way down.  But the more people that aren't on board with it, the more people get it, even if they are being reasonably careful, and the more people that get it, the more danger everybody else is in, and the more that the economy and a lot of small businesses suffer.  You said above somewhere that I want everybody to do it my way.  Nope.  I want everybody to follow BEST SCIENCE.  Best science says masks help, social distancing helps, and large indoor gatherings are some of the worst spreaders so should be avoided.

The economy is fine if you have good investments in the stock market.  Tell any small business owner in places hard hit by Covid that the economy is fine, and you'll probably get cussed out or laughed at.

I'm a small business owner in what they claim is a "hard hit area" because "Lake Ozark folk ignored the warnings" (oh the horror!!!).   

Did you miss all those slanderous articles about Lake of the Ozarks and surrounding businesses in all the STL, SPFLD., and KC papers?
