Fishing Goals 2021

Goal #1 Is a result of my relatively recent unhealthy obsession with species variety and my #LifeList. Goal #1 is catch 100 Species for the year.

Goal #2 @FishnDave and @BilletHeadhas inspired me to pick up the long rod more often. I want to catch 25 species on the fly rod.

Goal #3 I hope to live long enough to retire and still be  healthy enough to fish , a lot. I hope to fish 4 days a week once retired. So, this year I hope to fish half as often as I want to. 104 trips.

Goal #4 2500 fish caught 

Goal #5 Catch fish in 10 states with 3 states being new to my list of states fished. 

The 40 in 40 fiasco continues. The 2021 silliness will start 1/1/21.

I had a Great Year Fishing with friends and Solo. I enjoy fishing with friends more than I do fishing by myself, but I don't always have that luxury. 

I Got my 100 Species.

(I actually got to 108 with 35 LIfers along the way)

I did catch reach the 25 species on flyrod goal. I actually got 33 species on fly including Lifer Flier, Goldfish, and Koi. I also caught what is likely to be my largest Redfish that I will ever catch by Any method on a Flyrod this year. 

I finished with 104 trips. I would love to have fished more and had actually forgotten about this one. 

I FAILED to catch 2500 fish. I ended up with 2454. I gave up HUGE numbers of fish I could have caught to chase weird stuff. Catching 4000 fish in a year is outta reach for me until I retire, but I'll get things back on track with a > 3000 fish year in 2022.

I failed to fish in 10 States (again). I only fished in 8 states this year, but I did manage to hit three New States. Michigan, Maryland, and Delaware.

3.Caught 3 of the fish on this list....Redspotted Sunfish, Longnose Gar, and Warmouth.

4. Caught 2 of the fish on the Missouri wish-list...Rock Bass and Hybrid Striped Bass.  Did catch Brown Trout in Iowa and Arkansas in 2021, but not MO.  Didn't even try, though.  And only White Crappies were caught in MO this year, but did catch Black Crappies in Iowa.

5. Did not catch any Lake Trout.

Just 1 species so far in Jan after 4 trips.

Trips - are all COVID regulated

  - Two to three midwest trips - already missed a family trip in Jan/Feb
  - NJ for Lake Trout / conger eel - Feb/March or Nov/Dec - COVID regulated
  - Shad in NC - Mar
  - Key Largo trip - Apr
  - Panhandle / NW FL trip - Oct

Caught bantam sunfish with help from @Ham but missed out on spotted in FL and banded sunfish if FL and MD.

Did catch yellow bass in IL.

Caught a black bullhead with help from @FishnDave . Missed out on flat bullhead in NC.

Tried for northern Kingfish in NJ but no luck.

Ended up with 35 lifers in 2021 and over 100 species in 2021😁.

We did make the shad trip in March and the FL trip in Apr. The others didn't happen.

I know I already posted this, but I actually accomplished it twice since ended up winning the Elfrink tournament as well. Dad and I also took 4th out of 90 boats in the RAW tournament. Our bass fishing went well too and we ended up taking 3rd overall in our club and won more $$$ by a decent margin compared to any prior year.




I guess the two main goals I have for this year are to win the RAW tourament with dad and boat a 20"+ brown trout. I'd also like to get my father in law out for some decent "catching" trips this year. Another one would be to take some more kids fishing. Last year I did my first youth tourney with a couple kiddos from the baseball team I help a buddy coach and I had an absolute blast doing that.

That's an incredible number right there....considering how many years you've been fishing, your life list had to be pretty lengthy already!

20 lifers were caught on our Florida trip. Any trip to FL is a shot in the arm for the life-list fisherperson!

Livie caught 56 lifers during her push to 100 🙂!
