Flysmallie Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 If you are going to fish that tailwater, especially during a good breeze, you are going to want to explore swinging a wooly bugger. XP 590 and Jthawks 2

Only change them until you get the one they are biting. With a Davy knot it can be done quickly and with very little material waste. Jthawks 1

I want to catch the fish that want to be caught.....not spend half a day trying to coax one fish to half heartedly take a nibble. Then you are missing a lot of hungry fish. Since scuds are the primary food source throughout the year you'll be watching others catch a lot of fish while you practice casting.... Jthawks and laker67 2

If you read his post you'll see he wasn't too successful and changing flies a lot, including to the same setup the guide was kicking butt on. So my point is worry more about the presentation and less about the fly. Partly just fishing style differences I suppose. Carry on. Jthawks 1 John

Plus he didn't have an indicator and he had never used one. You learn more catching fish than you do not catching fish. Jthawks 1

Change flies after 10 good drifts if you aren't getting bit and you are fishing where the trout are. I change flies and lures when bass fishing like a machine. If they are on a particular fly or color you are wasting your time with anything else. Before you go next time watch "The one Cast", stop or call the fly shops. You'll at least get an idea of how they are wanting a fly delivered and the color. I agree with you Snagged. 99.99% of the time on Taney, with flies or jigs, if you don't get a bite in 10 casts, something isn't to their liking. No sense in fish watching when you almost certainly can get em to bite! Now jerkbaits and streamers..I've casted my arm off for one follow..
