Water vapor in the air is cooled by the temperature of the water to the point it condenses.

Yep.  It's pretty much the opposite to what happens in the fall and winter.  Warm moist air that holds a ton of water vapor gets condensed by the cold air above the water in the river and turns it into fog.

Goose farts aside, my original question was how can I determine if or not it is foggy at Cape Fair before I leave home?

Yesterday dew point and humidity were the same.  There should have been fog but there wasn’t.

Ask Siri!  She may not know everything, but she'll help you figure it out. 😜

Would checking the weather of Cape Fair tell you what you need, or does the local environment you want sit down in lower elevation from the rest of the town?

If you could get permission from someone with a dock there to mount it, you could place a webcam that transmits photos over cell service. Just looked at some on the linked site below that lets you send 100 pics a month for free, and the cams aren't too pricey.

That is a thought.  I will have to check into that.

With the lake I'm guessing there are a lot more factors that go into it besides dew point.  Maybe the lake changed the temperature of  the air over the water just enough to alter whether or not fog would form.  It also has to do with whether or not there's any wind.  If it's windy it's more than likely not going to be foggy.

Heck, just find a tree on the bank somewhere that is remote and where no one will find it.

Everybody wants to get up and go fishing EARLY.  Why?  It's January, not July.

Just quit getting up and leaving in the middle of the night and you won't have any fog to worry about.   The best fishing is during the middle of the day now.

You evidently have never been to Cape Fair.  It can be close to noon by the time it is gone.
