The goggle eye and smallmouth didn't school up in zone 3 this season like they normally do. The ones there were below average small. 3 years back I caught 52 smallmouth the opening day of winter season. Some in the two pound range and all on fly rod. I have not been able to even come close since, mostly due to high water and unable to sight fish for them.

They are in there, but there's a dude with a spinning rod and a pocket full of rabbit fur jigs that lives close and keeps them pretty sore-mouthed.

I pussed out Super Bowl Sunday. Was going to head to RR for a trout or two before the game but me and Charli Suzi decided against it.

I used to fish no matter what the temp. I noticed that as my dad got older he would refuse to go more often. Said he didn't have to go on those cold days anymore. For several years he would jump on a plane 6 or 8 times a year and head to Falcon lake for a week. Drove me crazy that I couldn't go with him, but at least he made sure I had a boat to use if I wanted to go out in the cold while he was gone.
