I see it in LM, SM, and Spots all the same.

I only recall yellow eyes for spots but don't routinely catch that many.

Jacks Fork is a lot closer, but I'm more confident I can catch them in Big Cypress Bayou

I would've thought they would have the same eye color in the river.

That's seldom the case.   Next time you catch a bass with red eyes you might wanna change bait. Screenshot_20210222-121439~2.png

It's the iris not the white part.....😂

Bass eye's don't have a white part.....do they?     It's been so long since I've caught one I forget what they look like. 🤔

I just looked.  Nope no white

So, the iris is like a mood ring then.

Somebody who is supposed to know everything about bass, claims that a red lip on a bass means he's eating crawdads.  Personally I think that's a crock of BS.   Just leads to the question of....How much rooting for crawdads does it take to give him a lip-rash?

I thought red lips were due to cold water temps??

I'll  make a guess that red iris might be due to diet, or to one fish being more nocturnal than another. In our eyes purple pigment is said to help us see in the dark and there are claims that minerals in our diets can change our irises appearance or "color".  Red irises could also be lack any pigment and blood vessels showing, again possibly diet related.

Some youngun ought to  do a thesis or dissertation on fish eye color.
