fshndoug Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 Marty you might have tangled with that fella like 50 years ago BilletHead 1
Johnsfolly Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 We've had this discussion previously from another study. The worrisome part of this study is the lack of young fish indicating poor recruitment probably for decades. That makes the population vulnerable of being lost. These fish can't live forever. MoCarp and snagged in outlet 3 2
fishinwrench Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 That one isn't all that big. If size is any indication of age then there are some in this lake that are as old as the Osage river is. I've always thought it was odd that I never see little ones. I never see a buffalo (or a carp for that matter) that is smaller than 20-22". Why is that? And only once in my life can I remember seeing a baby gar. He was a cute little bugger too. 🤗

We don't live forever either. No problem with young fish around here. A few years ago when we had high water and it receded I took the cast net and tossed it into the backwaters up on schell osage. Netted hundreds of two inch black buffalo. Not carp but baby buffalo. Pretty cool. When I bowfished I witnessed many buffalo orgies happening in multiple places. Yep, they show up here in the creeks usually after a flood near the beginning of the white bass run. They get in a riffle and raise all kinds of hell. They won't bite a fly, and you'll only snag ONE before you decide to cast elsewhere. BilletHead 1

In places the shoals are black covered with them! Terrierman Posted March 24, 2021 Posted March 24, 2021 That kid in the video could be my grandson. Buffalo are cool fish, except when there's a plate of fried buffalo ribs some fresh cut french fries and slaw in front of you.
